Damn I hate you all. There are no thrift/discount stores where I live -- at least not with anything worth buying -- so I have to rely on eBay for my bargain fixes. Must be nice to live in a real city [IMG]

Dude, where in Ontario are you?

Toronto has Kensington market, which has huge finds, as well as Goodwill. Not to mention Winners.

    Long time reader...first time poster.

As a Torontonian I have read this thread and found some great deals as a result.

For those in Toronto I strongly suggest the Goodwill on Dufferin/401 (across from Yorkdale Mall) and the Goodwill on St. Clair/Bathurst near the Forest Hill area. Both are gold mines from time to time.

Here are my findings from the past six months:

    4 Canali dress/sport shirts - 2 appeared almost brand new. $5/each
    1 Canali suit - grey wool. $11.
1 Zegna suit - beautiful navy wool - brand new with tags on. $12.
    1 Brioni dress shirt - green. $5.
    1 Armani shirt - $4.
And a whole whack of other odds and ends.
On Saturday I had to put back a beautiful Harry Rosen house brand cashmere sweater and a Canali shirt that was coming apart at the cuff. I did manage to pick up a signed Jack Welch autobiography for a dollar though. [IMG]

It's hit and miss...somedays I'm stunned other days I run.

There is also a nice fellow named Ken who posts regularly on Craigslist Toronto - my friends and I have purchased some nice suits from him. Armani's, Canali's, Corneliani's...Harry Rosen brands etc. Try searching on Craigslist for Canali or Zegna and his name and number will come up. He sells suits in his basement and gets them from Film Studio wardrobes...

Saw a suit jacket today with the label Reina, 61 El Arte, Hecho en Cuba. Batista-era bespoke, I think. It was well made but incredibly small, so I left it.

Sigh. Northern Ontario. Sudbury, to be exact. Perhaps next time I'm in Toronto...

    Found a Balenciaga jacket today.

Also, at this store, was a guy selling bootleg DVDs. He was walking up to various people in the store. "Five each, three for fifteen! Four for twenty! I got Casino Royale! Rocky! Black Christmas! Dreamgirls!" A bunch of employees came out the back room to buy DVDs. They gave me suspicious looks as I looked through the clothing racks near them.

I wanted to browse his selection, but security had kicked him out by the time I made up my mind to get "Dreamgirls".

Today, in preparation for an upcoming Hawaii trip, I got three pairs of khakis ([IMG]!) which I will slim down somewhat and see what I end up with, and two vintage Hawaiian shirts (see thread). Also found a nice grey cableknit crewneck sweater (unknown mall brand with one of those security things in it, so BR most likely) wool/something blend, fits, $3, a Polo RL merino/wool shawlneck sweater, brown, brand new, may either shrink it/alter it or sell it, $something, and.. something else, I thought. Can't remember now.

During some after-work errands on Thursday I picked up my wife *yet another* YSL rive gauche jacket, this one a DB in navy blue serge with horn buttons: $4.98. For myself, I picked up a casual tweed from a main-stream brand I remember from Japan (Peyton Place), it's fused, but fits well: $7.50.

Not much luck recently, though with my closets bulging that's probably a good thing.

I did find a navy with light blue pins 3-roll-2/DV Isaia suit in Super 120's dated 2002 inside with nice natural shoulders and very mildly roped sleeveheads for about $15 after tax, and despite my lack of enthusiasm for the marque it's with my tailor right now...

One of my thrift store finds from this weekend. Brown herringbone wool tweed Polo trousers. Made in Italy. Perfect condition. Three bucks.

Also picked up a vintage Pendleton robe. Came across a double-breasted, three-piece grey herringbone tweed suit from 1946, but the damn thing had holes. Otherwise, it was a sight to behold.
