1. And... we're back. You'll notice that all of your images are back as well, as are our beloved emoticons, including the infamous :foo: We have also worked with our server folks and developers to fix the issues that were slowing down the site.

There is still work to be done - the images in existing sigs are not yet linked, for example, and we are working on a way to get the images to load faster - which will improve the performance of the site, especially on the pages with a ton of images, and we will continue to work diligently on that and keep you updated.

Rue La La has Brooks Brothers today - most prices are along the lines of outlets but some deals (i.e.: suede jacket down to $180 from $600) to be had.

Spoilered invite link since it's kinda spammy:

    Link.

You're not missing much. What neighborhoods? I still love Chicago but my backyard is getting a little too rowdy.

Belted back jacket is cool. From the brief late '60s/early '70s period where '30s styles became popular again and several makers did some almost-but-not-quite-accurate repros of early styles.

In chronological order: Rogers Park, East Ukrainian Village, Bucktown, Lakeview East. Bucktown was still a wasteland when I moved there...and I moved out right around when they were filming The Real World in Wicker Park (got out just in time - darn falootin' yuppies starting moving in). East Lakeview was my favorite bar none. Probably the best big city in America, Chicago is.

Waterfield bags are great! I found several nylon bags in different styles a few years ago. Sadly I sold them all as I didn't really have a use for them but they were built like tanks. Good stuff! Probably would have kept one if I had found a waxed canvas one like you found.
+1. Some of my favorite ties are paisley. I do prefer the large paisley prints though, like the Talbott BOC I found (pictured below). [IMG]

Bucktown is a hipster hangout lol. You mention many other nice neighborhoods. Unfortunately for me the South Side hasn't caught up. I moved out of Bridgeport right as it started to blow up to invest in Bronzeville in 2006 and that hasn't worked out well for me so I'm in the process of trying to get out. My work keeps me out in the south burbs so I think it's time I got out of the city as a resident anyway. They've built up a lot along the south side lake front, a new harbor and Hyde Park beach will be missed but not being able to walk around at night won't be. All in all I do love this city but just not where I'm at.

Back on topic slighty: There are many good thrift shops [IMG]

I snapped them with my iPhone in a hurry in a poorly lit room. Is this a fine photography thread or something?

I agree that many good finds are to be had in other parts of the store, but one thing that limits me is time. I don't have a huge amount of time to spend thrifting, so I have to make strategic decisions on how to best spend that time. I often use the first couple areas (suits, outerwear, shirts) to determine if it might be better to just move on to another store. I wish my area gave me more reasons to thrift the other sections.

This is where I love my job. 4 days a week 10 hours a day. Saturday I thrift, Sunday I box things as they get bids and label them so they only need a postage slap, Monday I drop off the packages (risky neighborhood) and go thrift more. It's been great since I got my new job.
