1. And... we're back. You'll notice that all of your images are back as well, as are our beloved emoticons, including the infamous :foo: We have also worked with our server folks and developers to fix the issues that were slowing down the site.

There is still work to be done - the images in existing sigs are not yet linked, for example, and we are working on a way to get the images to load faster - which will improve the performance of the site, especially on the pages with a ton of images, and we will continue to work diligently on that and keep you updated.

    But of course.

Sorry for the huge derail but there's nothing else going on and frankly I don't care. Lol. Plus I wouldn't go anywhere else with this question.

    Wes,

Forgive me, but you need an intervention. If I said I had nothing to wear, given my bulging closets, my wife would bitch-slap me, and I would deserve it. You own a mannequin, for chrissakes.

This said, I'm not sure that your description of the upcoming meal is much assistance in deciding what to wear. The cost of a meal can, often does, have very little to do with appropriate attire--what flies in Phoenix, for example, may not cut it in New York, and what's appropriate for a fancy French restaurant may not be right for sushi. Most importantly, what is the purpose of this meal with folks you have never met but know on business level? If you're angling for a job or a contract, you would, most likely, dress in an entirely different way than if you were going out prior to going to see a show. Will you be accompanied by a significant other? If so, then you have to take what she'll wear into consideration.

Whatever you wear, make it comfortable. You are better off in button-down shirt and khakis, regardless of the occasion, than a heavy flannel or tweed suit that will cause you to sweat the whole time. Aside from that, we don't have enough information to provide meaningful advice, not that I'm trying to pry or anything. But, and seriously dude, there is no excuse for you to not have a nice suit. I suggest navy, because it is the most versatile.

Gotta say, this thread takes the most unexpected turns. First a portable stripper pole, now one of the planet's top thrifters flummoxed by something like this. What's next, Eazy in a Nautica ad? Spoo trading in the Ferrari for a Hyundai?

    and........
    - if you are not wearing socks, you are under-dressed. so it's ok to be yourself, if one guy shows up not wearing socks. you can be sure that you are not the least appropriately dressed person at dinner.[IMG]

wes, post a fit pic, please??????

    Another thread derail:

This has been done many times, but in light of Wes' recent sartorial confession, here is what every well-dressed man must--must--have in his closets. You can have more, but not less. If there is something on this list that you do not own, go out and buy it. Immediately.

    1 navy suit
    1 charcoal suit
    1 navy blazer
1 white dress shirt if you don't wear a tie every day, otherwise three
1 blue dress shirt if you don't wear a tie every day, otherwise three
1 pair black lace-up dress shoes
1 pair brown lace-up dress shoes
1 pair tan lightweight wool dress trousers
1 repp stripe tie, predominately red
1 repp stripe tie, predominately blue
    1 foulard tie, predominately red
    1 foulard tie, predominately blue
5 pairs of socks, solid or muted pattern in navy and charcoal, with one pair tan

And that, really and truly, is all anyone needs to look their best, and only you will know that it fits, easily, in to one normal sized closet, because no one else in the world pays any attention to what you wear so long as it looks nice. Once you have these things, you can start acquiring brown tweed jackets and penny loafers and striped shirts and hats, but until you have these things, you are a loser in the sartorial world. So get cracking--call it the Capn's scavenger hunt

Okay so I have to ask what is this? I have a label album on my phone but this one isn't in it. Should I be adding it?

Critical omission: Gray trousers. One worsted, one flannel. And given how much wear they will get, you'd probably best have two of each.
