Just got back from the little thrift shop down the street, waiting for my client to ask why I have a large bag of shoes under my desk:

One pair's Florsheim Imperial, the cordovan's Johnston & Murphy, and the other two I have yet to identify. They've been resoled and reheeled but "Made in England" is clearly visible. Tonight's project is to ID them.

The front pair is Alan McAfee, acquired by Church's

Oops, forgot to mention: they're my size (9.5D). Well, sort of. The cordovans are marked as 9.5B, which I thought was odd, since this shop is so small it's unlikely that they were dropped off by two different 9.5 donors on the same day. I'll see later if they fit. Regardless, the cordovans need to be resoled: big hole in the bottom of one that allowed me to get the price knocked down to $2. Uppers on all of them look fine, though.

Aagh, why do I never find shoes? Nice haul!

Slightly off-topic but relevant to thrifting: can a cobbler widen a shoe when replacing the sole? If so, what are the constraints?
