haha that's like the batsignal for andro.
It is worth remembering if there is an IOU, if the thrifter finds nothing juicy in your size, there is not a lot he can do. I personally keep a list of all those that have done me favors, and those that owe me favors. I keep the sizes in mind, if I find, I throw aside for the relevant person. At the end of the day though, if that person finds niche in your size, it is hard to repay the favor. If enough time has gone by, perhaps you could ask for at least the proxy price + postage on the item you sent that person. If you find out though that person has been scoring in your size but going on eBay, give him an ass kicking and flush that prick out publicly.
What works better is a group with everyone sending stuff on, an IOU that someone has with you can be mitigated by another member sending something your size to you. The other guy that did you a favor gets his just reward from a another member. In a large enough group, it tends to even out. I dont keep an IOU list as such with a group since what goes around comes around from many different members.
Thrift fit, wahhh, wahhhh, notice I'm not showing my face, that's because it's covered in tears .
where do the pocket flaps rest in relation to the rest of your coats? if they are about the same place it might just be styled long... in which case you can get it shortened...
shoulders... guess what too wide is... football pads/80's power suit... prob too much... an inch or so should be do able
Sorry man, that is a real tragedy... got measurements?
Been doing some thrifting of my own today. Found a few pairs of pants (everyone knows pants, right? Those things we all bitches about flipping?):
Coppley med. grey wool slacks - normally I don't buy Coppley but these fit perfectly and fill a wardrobe hole. There were three other pairs in the same size (roughly 35x34) if anyone wants a proxy.
Brooks Brothers tan wool slacks - temporarily NOT available, pending a delivery.
And lastly... anyone like Costume National? Picked up some Costume National Pour Homme stone chinos, tagged 52... measure out as 34 x 30. AVAILABLE
shoulder to shoulder is 18 inches, shoulder to cuff is 25 inches, pit to pit is 22 inches boc to bottom is 31 inches. Although I already have been flooded with pm's. And let me say this wasn't from a regular thrift, so it wasn't thrift store priced., but cheap enough to grab and brag about it on here.
Hey guys, noobie here, and just got into thrifting as it fits in well with my post-doc salary and flexible post-doc hours (and now that I have a Ph.D I'll need to stack up on tweeds and elbow patches for this fall). I've pretty much read this thread all the way through over the course of a couple weeks, and was just wondering what you guys look for in terms of pricing. I've only been looking for things that fit, but I bumped into this Loro Piana partially lined linen SC size EU52 (I am EU50/40R ). I am not really interested in becoming a flipper etc., since I am way too new to all this, and am really just looking for things for myself.
Anyways, for myself for future reference, this thing was priced at $40 (the store is an actual charity thrift, not consignment). Standard? Good? Bad? I was just looking for guidance as to what you guys look for in terms of price for shirts, SC/blazers, and full suits. I did pick up a Lorenzini shirt there for $10 that I took straight to my tailor to have the sides taken in. Anyways, this thing has been in the store for well over a week so if anyone is interested I can run and pick it up.
Ah, probably too expensive for my broke ass anyway then. Although that thing would fit perfectly.
Agreed with this. Also, anyone whose ever hooked it up for me, if you see I've got something you like don't hesistate to bring up the past. I'm 100% with Klobber, sometimes I just don't find stuff in your guys sizes for a really long time, then I forget what sizes people are except people who recently PMed me. I don't want people to think they'll offend me or something by reminding me of a great hookup in the past.
With that said, still looking for some damn oxfords -_-. With payday around the corner I really hope someone finds something suitable for me before I have to actually buy something NWT at full price -_-.
Jesus christ man, don't do that! At least get them from b&s or ebay! The day im really, honestly temped to pay full retail for something is the day I meet my match
During a "quick trip" to one of my local haunts along came a wild...
Pick stitching, light suede... I was all
I opened it up and saw
And I was like ...
But then I saw
And previously missed pit stains in the lining .
On the plus side, I found another RG shirt that I'll post in a few along with the other RG and RLPL from the other day.
Don't be too bummed about the Lanvin, it is licensed and not "real" Lanvin. Along with the logo, the "tailored in USA" gives it away.
My thrift ban is back in full effect. This has given me time to measure, photograph and catalog basically everything I currently have available. I've posted to the unofficial trading thread. Stuff will gradually filter onto B&S and Ebay. Tons of shirts, mostly Jermyn street. A few suits, some ties, trousers... Get while the gettin's good.
As the post says: Discounts in direct proportion to: a) the number of transactions I've had with you, AND b) your tendency to offer me or others straight proxy price.
To those who say that this is not a brag, I say: These are better pics of previously bragged items. So it counts.
We now return you to your regularly scheduled programming.
