There are a significant number of SFers who seem to get off on gathering information, often useless information, without ever buying anything. Sole measurements, for example. After measuring shoe soles for the last year I have observed that the sequence goes like this:

    1. Prospective buyer asks for sole measurement.
    2. I retrieve shoes and measure.
    3. I PM measurements to prospective buyer.
    4. Prospective buyer either doesn't respond or responds that the shoe will not fit.
    5. No sale.

Now I devote a paragraph in my shoes thread explaining why I don't measure soles, so I am skipping steps 2 through 4 in the sequence.

lol at the thought of the American Hoarders crew not being able to get into your kitchen because of the racks of Oxxford and the boxes of Aldens.

One of my all-time pet peeves. I have measured countless soles and never sold a pair of shoes to anyone who put me through the trouble. In my opinion, anyone who asks for sole measurements doesn't know anything about shoes.

    And another thing.

Had a pretty good day today and finally have stuff folks here might be interested in seeing. Pictures tonight.

Good to see you EBTX...sorry to hear you're retiring. Got some great suits from you in the past.

Also I would 100% recommend Steve Smith...The BB shirt I bought off him last week was awesome. Loved seeing the original price tag of $168 on it as well.

+1...The Alden's I sold on eBay last week were on the Barrie last. Some guy asks me the measurements (not sure he even bid). You can find a TON of information out there on how shoes on the Barrie last (or any Alden last for that matter) run.

Welcome to it. I'm fairly new on SF and have only made about 10 successful trades / sales both on B&S and directly from this thread, so I know all about tire-kickers. However, it's almost necessary since most of the finds on the bragging thread don't include detailed photographs, descriptions, measurements, or even a definite price range. I probably answer 10x more dead-end questions than I make successful trades / sales. Just last night, I was in communication with about 1/2 dozen forum members about a handful of items that I was offering and a couple of items that I was interested in. One successful sale and I'm in the process of negotiating a potential buy. It's a trade-off, but what can you do?

Thanks for the welcome, but I have been around SF for a while. Even managed to make a few sales. :)

Seeing a hefty retail price tag always kicks the enjoyment up a notch.

Tire kickers come with the territory, and questions are to be expected, especially if standard measurements aren't provided. I don't mind filling in holes if I haven't posted, say, sleeve length or stated outright that the measurement is from bottom of collar. And I don't mind questions as to which photo most accurately captures the true color, or how much padding is in the shoulders or stuff like that. But sole measurements are a qualitatively different question.

Lol. The welcome was more tongue-in-cheek. I figured you'd been in the game for a while (I've seen the fury of BB in your signature lines before). [IMG]
