Such a depressing thrifting day. Came across four orphaned pin stripe jackets, Isaia (three of them), and a single Borrelli. All sized 60. No blasted pants. OK, so pants are going to be a 40 - 44 size. I look over at the pants section, a guy is there aggressively going through pants. I am immediately feeling anxious, surely he is going to f$$k off soon I thought? I wait 5 minutes, he is checking every pair of pants as if he were gynecologist inspecting a hot lady's genetalia. I cant put up with this I thought, I am going to pick this rack right now. He was going left to right, I thought I would go right to left. I go through every pair of pants that are pinstriped as quickly as possible. Nothing there. I cast my eyes at his cart, yes, he has about 8 or 9 pairs of pinstriped pants. The horror! What if he has them? I swallow my awkwardness and ask him as politely as possible if any of his pants matched the jackets and maybe we could work something out. He looked at me as if I had just propositioned his wife to play a game of doctors and nurses with me, and bluntly said "No I will not consider letting go of any of these pants". Oh well, nevermind, an orphaned jacket is still worth a bit of money, I could easily see the Borrelli flipping for $50+. I go to the checkout, and the lady started scanning them. Total price was nearly $160, I did not check the price tags and assumed they were $10 per jacket, they were all more like $40 a jacket . I walked out a bitter and twisted man and the jackets were left behind.

I was astonished at that shirt haul in my size. That is the best haul I think I have ever seen, far far better than my recent haul. I very very nearly hit the PM button, and then thought it would not be so bad to sit this one out, let some other big guys like TheWGP and Achilles get the action.
    [/quote

    You are too kind!

Did he know the brands, or was he just grabbing pinstriped pants? Why wouldn't he be grabbing the jackets first?

^^ If he was anything like what I've seen, he probably was one of the oddballs who likes wearing striped pants. For this exact reason, I wish thrifts would put more effort into keeping suits together rather than having some gonzo take off with half of it and leave the other half in the store. I'm sure they don't even have a clue that it is actually part of a suit.

Weird. Yeah, orphaned pinstriped items have trouble moving on ebay (even the big names) so I would guess he's not a flipper. Sucks though Klobber, that would have been an amazing find, even at those prices.

Some of my recent snags. Yes, my photos are shite due to poor lighting and no tripod. I'm working on the camera situation. Does anyone have any experience with the 12 MP compact Olympus PEN cameras? They use the 4/3 standard for SLR lenses, but are tiny and apparently quite nice for daily use. I'm looking forward to not taking overexposed, blurry photos with great depth of field.

The real score this week was the free mannequin used in these photos. We were clearing out lots of merchandising materials at work and this was slated to be tossed out. It's a 3/4 frame, so I can even show pants on it if I get a base.

For all of you amateur authenticators out there...

Cockpit NYC repro A-2 flight jacket, as worn by WWII and Korean war era fighter pilots. Looks virtually unworn from my inspection. Goatskin leather. Sizing tag was removed, but it fits me quite well, so I'd put it in the 39/40 range.

BNWT Turnbull and Asser FC striped shirt with crispy white contrasting collar and cuffs. 15 1/2. It even had the collar pin still in place, which stabbed the poor cashier when she went to unbutton the collar to remove the hanger.

Charles Tyrwhitt FC Sea Island Cotton shirt in extremely good shape. 14 1/2 / 33. Brianpore, I'm looking at you for this one.

Thomas Pink shirt 15 1/2 / 33. It shows some indication of wear, but has no stains or tears. I'm going to try to get this slimmed down a bit and use it as a beater dress shirt, as much as a Pink can be used as such.

BNWT Chester Barrie barrel cuff dress shirt 15 1/2. It even has that cool tie knot embellisher that buttons underneath. I'm not sure what this is called, but I might try to slim it down and give it a go. I don't think there's a great resale value on this given that most people look for Chester Barrie suits and not shirts.

Willis and Geiger safari (?) henley pullover. This thing is incredibly overbuilt, extremely heavy cotton. Made in Hong Kong, but this is serious expedition quality, with the stout buttons up the center and the reinforced shoulders. It's an XL, so way too large for me.

Awesome, awesome pea coat that I've been on the lookout for awhile. It's too small to button on my mannequin, so I'd put it at close to a 36R. I'm going to try to see if my tailor can lengthen the sleeves and maybe place the buttons inboard just a hair so that it buys me some space in the chest.

THANKS!!! [IMG] It's going to be a tad too big in the sleeves being a FC shirt and all but am sure it will go fast to someone here especially being Sea Island Cotton. I just sold a Sea Island shirt (SO NICE!!!). PM me the measurements on the peacoat if it ends up not working out for you (hope it does though, looks nice!)

Me called dibs on the POW! If it dont work on me, you know I will pm you and suggest that a nice sport coat will soon be added to your closet ;)

Yeah, I will see if I can fix that through a tailor. Again, if it dont work on me ..................

Aye, I was not happy. As Nataku suggested, he was probably an oddball with a thing for pinstriped pants. I never did know for 100% sure he had the pants, all I did see was a whole bunch of them with a few in a similar color pinstripe combo as the jackets. He also had something like 10 - 15 pairs of other color / patterned pants. A pants fetishist perhaps....

That Goodwill is notorious for splitting up pants and jacket. I am thinking maybe what is happening is someone trying on and they get separated in changing room somehow. I could easily see the average guy just leaving the pants on the side and hanging jacket up and leaving it there. GW employee not knowing about the pants - jacket combo = suit, and they get split up for good.

This thing is killer! Especially for $25! Looks like the stuff I see at DWR with a $3,500 price tag on it. +1 on the comment regarding any makers marks. That could make it even more valuable.
