DBs remain closed, always. Never open when sitting.

    That was the car! Exactly!

And the trunk was a BIN, smart aleck!

I have some trunks from the late 1890's that are just painted canvas, and some from the turn of the century that have the hand painted monogram on canvas.

I am a big fan of the turn of the century LV trunks with the hand painted monograms. I like when they still have the ocean liner labels so you can assume that the trunk is well traveled.

Yeah, mine have those. I love them too. I keep waiting to find one with my initials on them.

Did I ever tell you the story of how I went to an estate sale and bought both a LV and Goyard 1920s leather suitcase(s) for $20?

I always think I'm gonna get lucky at one of these country-ass, middle-of-f'g-nowhere flea markets and come across one but it never happens.... too much internet even in the sticks!

Don't mind me. I just got back from DT and I'm feeling a bit...sassy.

BTW...I'm seriously considering these for my dinner suit. I'd ask in the Black Tie thread but they went all serious with manton and vox poasting there and I have so little sf cred. The price seems right. Black and white yet whimsical. I could maybe pair them with a red P.S.?

[IMG] I am always in the mood for a good story and would actually love to hear how you managed that. I have been interested in vintage luggage (trunks, briefcases, etc.) for a long time but I am usually outbid in the beginning.

There are a couple of smaller auction houses in the area and I am always hoping that one will pop up in their auction. But I just don't believe those types of items are in their cards.

I knew going into it the shoulders were going to be questionable, but I dug the whole vintage type look of the jacket. What the hell right? I gave it the old college try. I may wear it out a few times just because...

Probably the wrong time to pitch that, Im exhausted. But, rich area, nothing to do, I see a sign for an estate sale. House is a disaster, musty, packrats, you know the story. I go up to the attic, find a trunk full of beanie babies. I shove them aside and find a LV label. I freak out. Tear up the rest of the attic and find a Goyard. Both whiskey leather, patina like you have never seen. Take em downstairs, pitch it all nonchalant like "yeah, hey buddy - you selling these for anything?" I leave with them for $20. They didn't even look at the labels. I sent them to a trunk repair shop to be conditioned and restored and sold em both for something like 2 grand.
