Not a thrift find, but these came from eBay today. Nicer than I expected even, and just $45 + shipping.

Ok, here are additional pics from the 1940 Bespoke Austin Reed jacket from earlier. Upon closer inspection, it does appear to be a dinner/tuxedo jacket. In person the lapel color difference isn't nearly as pronounced as the flash pictures make it look...it just looks slightly faded, actually. It does feel more "slick" to the touch though, which does make it seem like it's satin that would be found on a dinner jacket. I'll keep checking for the pants, but finding them seems unlikely as this place tends to bring stuff out all at once in my experience. Oh well, I'll keep trying and we'll see.

The pictures really don't do it justice. It really is very gorgeous in person...and HEAVY. The fabric down on the front below the stomach (where you would test the lining for canvassing if you do the "pinch test') is so thick that it feels like it's stuffed. Very sturdy jacket.

Hey guys, pretty new here, first time posting in this thread. I was pretty shocked to find this in my local TJ Maxx the other day.

It's a gorgeous 60/40 cotton and silk blend, with red tipping that puts a great spin on a wardrobe staple. Where I live we have two seasons - hot and cold, so I don't wear sweaters too often, but this was too great a piece to pass up. Hope you enjoy.

I was speaking in general terms, I've seen pick-stitched linings on a couple of jackets and wasn't sure if it was an easy cheat to make them look higher end than they are.

Oxxford is sweet, lots of handwork. It's 70% cashmere, 30% silk. Size 43L. Up for grabs.

Oooh, tell me, tell me, tell me the maker! I'm pretty sure I have that exact sportcoat. Completely unstructured, patch pockets, etc. Only sign of the maker is a blue square tag near the neck that has two E's facing each other. Snagged it off eBay for a song because it was simply labeled "E" cashmere sportcoat. Couldn't figure out the maker for nothing. Made in the USA. I thought Paul Stuart did a Westgate model, but I couldn't figure out that blue "E" label.

Oxxford offer among the best RTW suits / jackets in the world. I know many who rank Oxxford above Kiton or Brioni in terms of quality of handwork. Personally, Brioni, Oxxford, and Kiton in that order in terms of quality. You dont see me jumping on Oxxford though because aesthetically (cut, shape, design) it is not a brand that works for me. I wish Oxxford would bring back Oxxford Crest, which was competitive in terms of cut and design with any high end European brand.

Crosspoast! I'm in the process of converting some high quality (but kinda ugly) old MIE Docs into something with more of an absurd Rick Owens look. Dyed 'em, sliced 'em, and added some triple-wide laces and a velcro double tongue (things which apparently make a sneaker cost $600 more? :uhoh: )

Here's what they used to look like:

It's OK to laugh, they're supposed to look silly.

P.S. Thanks to the two gents with the heads up on Maus and Haufmann. For some reason, my phone wasn't letting me post earlier and the thread moved forward another 9,000 posts.

Haven't even gotten it listed yet, BUT see for yourself...

Overall in amazing condition (New old stock??) Three small issues. 2 tiny moth holes (left arm and bottom of back flap) and a cracked sleeve button, but couldn't let this just sit there.

I'm notoriously terrible at the pinch test, and I'm trying to list this Zanella SC on ebay — well, I just did, but I would amend it, of course — but I don't know for absolute certain that this is a fully canvassed coat. It feels like it is, and I'm pretty sure it is, I'm just hoping someone with more experience might have run into these and could confirm.

Does listing something as canvassed usually matter on eBay. I assume it does.

    Here's the listing: http://www.ebay.com/itm/120845559772?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1555.l2649

I'd be eternally grateful if someone could confirm the canvassed nature of the item in question.

Not sure if this is what you want to do, but I had the same issue, and I'm really inexperienced with the pinch test. I just pulled some of the lining stitching away at the bottom and peeked inside. You should be able to see the canvassing pretty clearly if it's there.

All look recent and are from a high end shop here in town. Center Vent, 2 button, etc.

All are 38R except for the leather button jacket which is a 40R. And all were nicely lined up in a row. :bigstar:

Found these things but didn't pick them up (not really worried, the suit section never seems to get much traffic). Any of them worth picking up for resale?

Vintage Yves St. Laurent DB suit
    [IMG]

Cashmere SC made for Bijan Beverly Hills
    [IMG]

Oxxford SC (some soil and holes near wrist area, but probably fixable)

Also I constantly run into a whole bunch of Harris Tweed SCs. How do I know if they're worth getting?
