Galiano? You mean the Mel Gibson of the fashion world? What a ******* nut bag. Nearly screwed his whole career up.

He should be very thankful for Oscar de la Renta throwing him a bone in his last years and for Martin Margiela basically deserting his own company.

On a side note, when I was first reading this thread years ago, I found a button up Shirt with a bunch of numbers on the label. It didn't fit, didn't seem like anything amazing and I simply could not find the brand name. Oops!

Galliano definitely fucked up with the Nazi remarks.

When I was at Oscar de la Renta, there were rumours that he would be joining as a guest designer and everyone was kind of iffy about it. Personality/comments aside, he is a brilliant and talented designer that will go down as one of the greats of all time who took risks and achieved them. When he started, everyone was panicked on the sales side, as our core client was the upper east side, ladies who lunch crowd - and we had a tremendous Jewish client base. When he started, the office had a quiet buzz - not quite sure how to describe it - maybe a cross between realizing that Oscar was finally realizing that he was getting too ill to carry on the day to day, and apprehension for such a controversial figure that would be a lightning rod for criticism.

Needless to say, his first collection for us was a stark contrast from what we had grown to know as signature Oscar style - but it was very well received. I think I sold over $100K more of his gowns than Oscars previous collection. But the day the Post/News posted that he was with us, I was answering all the calls from our website and had to handle all the customer inquiry emails, and there were a LOT of "how dare you...anti-semetic....etc". Lasted for a few weeks and quieted down. But the guy really does know what he's doing in design.

I got to break in three new cooking tools this afternoon: a Le Creuset baking dish, a Calphalon Stainless Steel pot, and a bamboo spoon (not pictured). All were purchased at significant discounts. The tools definitely make a difference.

I've had a pair of Velasca boots for about 2 years. Really nice for the money (about $250). Blake sitiched, but they got a lot of the details right. Vibram Eton sole, totally made in Italy, good leather. I wear them a lot and I'm very happy them, super comfortable and built on a great last (better than Meermin imho). Not sure that helps but just wanted to add my personal experience.
