The wife was on my case to “thin out the herd” in our closet. Stuff I haven’t worn in a year or two. You know, something completely unreasonable like that  I then decided to put together a seemingly ridiculous assortment of garments and try them on, just to say “I wore them” and therefore that argument is invalid. In any case, this one worked better than I had visualized (albeit a bit costumy), so I may very well rock these tomorrow. Thrift fit. Nothing newer than the 40’s.

Arrived in the US yesterday afternoon, and stopped by a few secondhand stores today. Found three neat things.

Two sportcoats, $13 each:

The second is a really cool 1950s piece, unlike anything I've ever found in person before. And then there was this pair of Park Avenues for 50 cents:

As someone who loves restoring shoes, I just couldn't pass these up. Unfortunately everything I bought today would be comically large on me, but I'll enjoy doing some flipping back home.

It is pretty old. I often leave decent stuff. I rarely sell myself. As I resell through Spoo I need to try and walk the line because it has not been my experience an older suit like this, I am guessing forty plus years, is gonna sell for a ton. Sometimes I still takes chances but between laying out money, holding stuff in my house, shipping it to New York, etc. I just have to draw the line somewhere. I like to think that i no longer buy stuff that might sell but only buy stuff i just cant justify to myself i am leaving behind. It often costs me 300 to 400 once a year now just to ship my stuff to Spoo in NY. He does a great job but it means I need to be pretty picky. Maybe leaving this was a mistake. I almost left the nutter suits a few weeks back but they were only $12 a suit and a pop for me.
Now if it is still there when that color goes half price then I plan to pick it up.

Makes sense though, I wouldn’t want to be sitting on a mountain of stuff either.

Definitely understandable trying to figure out where to draw the line, especially when having to ship to a consignor. I would use condition, pattern/color and size (t Rex arms, short pant inseam, etc) and dated (in a bad way, such as Oxxford’s fishmouth lapels) as determining factors.

I wouldn’t bother with pinstripes unless it’s a home run piece. Plaids and checks are where it’s at. Great details like hacking pockets, elbow patches, etc would also add value. With the vintage market in full swing, I wouldn’t use age specifically to write off anything. I’ve sold suits from the 70’s for more than a recent Zegna suit.

Really jealous of you guys. Where I live ( greece ) thrift shops mostly operate with seasonal inventory. So now it's only tshirts, polos, short sleeve shirts and shorts, which is mostly mass market garbage.
Another problem is that if even there are some nice tailoring it's mostly orphaned jackets, which is shame, cause sometimes it's very nice stuff.

If you don’t mind my asking, where in Greece do you live? I usually go every year or at least try to as I’m Greek myself, but haven’t had any actual luck thrifting in Athens
