Do you wear them? If not, why buy and hold?
Great photos and some really nice footwear. Out of interest, how come you’ve been amassing all these shoes? I remember you posting once about having crates and crates of ties. Do you prefer to stockpile for ages and then just sell all at once?
The ties were/are both a collection and inventory. My dad was responsible for amassing a ton of ties and saving the ones he liked to the tune of several thousand.. He had retired at the time and started thrifting a lot to spend time and he enjoyed buying nice silk fabric ties, italian menswear, english shoes, etc.

I was at the same time amassing tons of ties for resale purposes to the tune of several hundred. Collectively we had probably 3,500-4,000 at one time. Couple hundred of them were NWT Brioni, Zegna, Canali, Talbott BOC.. Many were sold off during the golden era of menswear flipping but there's still a handful of NWT ones somewhere.

We're down to maybe 1500 now. I still have my personal collection, my dad still has a bunch of boxes of ties but many are kind of dated, some flawed, etc. I expect 90% of those to be donated or sold off in a big wholesale lot. They were acquired cheap so it's not a big deal.

Why do I amass and offload?

Well the shoes I sort of already answered - They take a lot of time to restore, condition, polish, etc. and I was just too busy with moving and selling other inventory at the time to sit down and work on batches. I decided to just save em up for a rainy day.. The rainy day turned into a rainy 2 years or so.

I'm always getting new stuff in and need places to store it away. I often will "buy and hold" certain items if I feel trends shifting, long-term investment potential, etc. It's similar to stock trading.

I have a "vintage vault" where the real good stuff goes that may be sold some day, but it's going to be a good 10-15 yrs before any of that really sees light of day and has to be the right setting/time. Sure I can sell those now, but I can also just sell other items that I find more frequently and save the goodies for later.

Otherwise I'm usually holding stuff for a few months until the peak season for selling that item comes. Right now I have about 6 crates jam packed with shorts, polos, T's, backpacks, etc waiting for Summer and that doesn't include the like 150 pairs of sneakers/runners too. The values/desirability of those things dip during Winter/Fall so it's less worth my time to list those, whereas all the flannels, puffers, wool stuff, etc I saved up ARE worth my time during that season.

During Summer especially there's a noticeable "dry season" where sales slow - It's in my best interest to save as much primo summer inventory for that dry spell to boost sales. I'm sure many sellers have experienced that.

For me it's all about modulating inventory flow, picking and processing for Season, stockpiling for off times or unexpected events and saving the good stuff for later. When "the pandemic" shut everything down in March 2020 some people were screwed cause all the stores closed. I was lucky enough to have about 6 months of quality inventory stockpiled to list. Just sayin...

This is in pretty good shape but I do have some disc coloring on the collar. Not sure if this is ring around the collar type issue. Its definitely wool. Can I try soaking the area in water? Hesitant to start messing with this too much.
