Is Harris Tweed worth grabbing? I've passed on a virtual mountain of it. I don't want to wear it, don't know who would. I don't have an ebay store, no idea if it moves.

Depend on the piece I suppose. Theres a lot of tragic Harris Tweed out there too. Its a fantastic fabric and I was the same way until I decided to try wearing it. Now my favorite piece is my Blackwatch Harris Tweed.

Depends. Harris tweed is just the fabric. Like most of loro piana.

If the maker is a British house, like a vintage Dunne and Company, I like their tailoring. The USA made Harris coats fit like boxes imho.

You're not gonna make bank Flipping them, but i personally like how a good fitting Harris tweed looks with like a cashmere V neck, some nice jeans and Florsheim imperials. Dressy, but not too dressy.

Depends heavily on the tweed itself. I've found more boxy, awful, fused, Harris Tweed jackets than I care to mention.

I do keep one exceptional jacket, though: a mottled brown in a three-button cut, swelled edges, natural shoulder, fully canvassed. Made in the 50s in Montreal.

I actually prefer tweeds with a smoother finish, so I have a couple of those, but custom made.

I've passed on hundreds of Harris Tweed jackets. Finally found two ~50s pieces worth picking up in the last two weeks. Looks a lot like the jacket described above (Golden Brand. Made in Mtl)

It's a mossy green with a subtle peach windowpane.

And a 60s herringbone Samuelsohn m2m topcoat to boot

I still kop every "branded" Harris Tweed I find. The better brands make bank (PRL and others), but even the no-name items flip fast, if cheaper. Boxy ones to the trad guys, the others to hipsters and the like. Overcoats do great, 2-3 piece suits go fast. In my experience. YMMV, of course. Occasional rarities (capes etc) are instaflip.

As regards personal, I was born and grew up in Scotland, and would NEVER wear Harris Tweed even though I've been there and seen the artisans. Rough, scratchy, heavy, just plain NASTY. Masochistic torture. Sure, it withstands all kinds of elements, but I chose long ago NOT to live where such elements are present, so it's moot. But some folks LOVE it. As my old car dealer friend used to say: "There's an ass for every seat".

I must admit I have no idea. You guys always post insane finds so I didn't think mine would stand output! But here I am and I'm happy to be here! Also under the coat is a Zegna Trofeo suit and a pair of Florsheim 93602's.

I completely understand. I find insane deals (for me) but when I go to poast my great finds, all I see is Brioni this, Hermes that, sterling silver & 14k gold Tiffany buttons, etc.

For example:

Me: Look at this brand new box of fancy wine stoppers $5.00 at my local thrift. They look expensive. Oh sh!t - they are going to $40 on Amazon. Hot Damn Rumples, you dun hit it big my boy!!! I should take pics and poast in the Official Discount Bragging Thread...

random poaster: "So I stumbled on a case of absinthe that was recovered from HMS Excelsior which was lost in the Bermuda Triangle in the late 1750s..."

Me: <delete> <delete> <delete>

99.99999% of the time I just keep my "great" (read: piddly bvllsh!t) finds to myself and just try to figure out which areas these lucky bastards live :rotflmao:

Indeed. Half the time this thread is just inspiration for me!

I don't sell things, but I do enjoy finding great stuff for myself. I've realized that a lot of times it isn't that there aren't any good items in your area, but that you probably have resellers who get to all of it first.

Luckily for me, I'm not really into the high-end, ready-to-wear finds that people snatch up because they sell. So more often than not I'll still find plenty of things that were missed because they either weren't popular or people had no idea what it was.

Sometimes smaller stores can also be better. Especially if they're non-profit and don't have an incentive to jack up the price.

Bermuda triangle thrift expedition seems like a fun idea. But would be really expensive.

More often than not, there is always something to find. But you won't find it if you are looking. Just dig around a bit and. . "Hey, Mint late 80's ugly sweater".
