The lighting and angle may make the damage look more superficial. The toe of that one was gouged deeply down into the sub-layer - you can sort of see the lighter colored lining coming through. That was just the toe too, the heel backs were pretty deeply gouged as well. I walked around with them in the store for a while thinking about it but in the end it would've taken hours of sanding, filler application, polishing and finding or making new insoles.

My guess is the guy paid Alden $169 to restore em, maybe thinking they were going to address or recraft the toes. He probably got em back and saw they didn't touch the toes and tossed em.

When I saw them I looked them over and thought the scratch was to deep to fix. They were next to those shells I got. They should have been close to half off as it's been almost a month.

Three pounds of Filson waxed cotton hunting vest.

I don't normally bother with 35mm film camera equipment (unless it's Leica or Hasselblad), but ten bucks for this kit, including a teleconverter and four rolls of film? Sure, I can make that work.

Vintage shoes, $4 each, from top left, clockwise: vintage Florrie split-toe mocs, Bally Venetian, ancient Florrie oddities, AE, minty 'Gamo wingtips, 'Gamo Venetian, ancient something.

Any of you smart folks know anything about these Florries?

1996 Lynn Chase "Jaguar Jungle" 24K gold. I love it when people don't know what they have. 8 dinner and 8 side plates, and one octagonal bowl. This stuff is hard to find but has a fantastic following, and $$$$. Third time I've found it. Flips super-fast.

High-end LaZBoy electric leather recliner for when "her ladyship" gets her right shoulder replaced next month. They wanted $400. I gave 'em a Ben.

Monster swing-away bike rack from Yakima: $14 at GW, presumably because the hitch receiver pin was locked in with no key. Grinder took care of that in 90 seconds.

And finally, for whoever gets pissed off with cookware: All-Clad Copper Core x 2.

My sister is giving me Hella **** for hitting thrift stores. I tried explaining that going to an independent thrift with like 5 old bitties in the entire place is safer than any supermarket or dining outside. And the virus has a finite lifespan on surfaces, regardless of age. I'm not buying boots with 40 year old covid. She disagrees.

Oh well... I still go. I haven't hit the bins in a while though. Bunch of crap and not worth the risk.

i've juggled this in my mind and truthfully it hasn't been worth it when i have gotten out

i can still get a fix but not so easy as hopping in the car

I've been finding the opposite in my area: stores were dead for months pre-Covid, and now I'm finding more like-new clothes and fantastic stuff from NYC, etc than ever.

I'm looking forward to the big party, because people are certainly going to look good!

I could be wrong, but with that inner tag on the Gamo's are they from the Tramezza (higher-quality) line? I think it would say on the outsole as well.

I didn't get a chance to post yesterday because I'm a bit behind on everything.

I struck up a conversation with a random guy and somehow it came up that I collect fragrances. He mentioned that he had a bunch from his time at a local perfume store that he'd be happy to sell. He asked what my favorite brands are and I mentioned that I like a lot of stuff from the '80s and he said that his are more modern. I said, well, I have more from Creed than most other brands. He goes "Oh, I have some Creed!" and I said I'd drop by his house to take a look.

He gave me an incredible deal. Many are testers from his old store and they rotated them out pretty often.

Here's what I grabbed:

All are duplicates in my collection, but I won't say no:

This is actually a blouse, but I'm considering putting it in my closet:

Old tuxedo has a few issues, but it was cheap and sold as a set so I didn't think much of it until I noticed the waistcoat seems older and is made of silk brocade. The interesting buttons turned out to be .800 silver, though they're not solid. I'll continue to check thousands of buttons each year hoping to hit gold.
