    Hahahaha

    Never put that together until
Now... it was made based off a picture of me. I’ve met a handful of people here in person curious if they think it looks like me now

Nice boots! Those are riding boots for horseback (the heel).

If you use it for personal, I'd get it resoled with a new heel. Or use it around town but it'll look odd.

serging goes back to the 1880s? i had a pre-war levi's jacket with serging inside (probably a merrow edge!)

with alohas you'd never see it because those were like literally garage mom n pop outfits and probably just learned to do without through the 50s. but the bigger outfits would be using those tools (per levis, military contractors, etc)

a burn test would prob tell you about the fiber. if you see true flat fell seams etc i'd guess 50s but i really don't think it matters if that is deadstock and actually rayon it should do very well. a piece like that is mostly about the fabric imo

Awesome. Thank you for the knowledge! Not sure why I thought serging was a more recent thing. I'll grab some pics of the seams on the weekend and try a burn test.

Yep, my favorite kind of beaver. True story: there's an older gal in one of the local consignment stores who just cannot bring herself to utter the words "sheared beaver", which, of course, is why I have to ask her what it is every time I see it in the store.

    "Fur", she says.
"What kind of fur", I respond.
    "Oh, someone else will know".

Problem is that when one of the other gals says it, it's almost impossible to keep a straight face. Frickin' sophomoric, but . . . Sorry lady thread members, I'm not growed up yet.

Yes, that's right. It was, er, "too late" last night when I posted. "Looks like shell but surely it can't be. But those rolls". Duh. Horsehide it is. Thanks!

Yes, I believe these are what are known as "Packers". I'm taking them today to my bootmaker, David Espinoza in Phoenix, to get the soles and heels done. The underslung or Cuban heel is much favored by cowboys. While I understand that the heel height is what keeps the boot in the stirrup and the heel lip (and horsehide heel cup) are intended to support the spur, no-one has explained why the underslung element is present, as I always feel a bit "tippy" when I wear that heel, and they force me to swing my hips like John Wayne. I'll ask David today. I could easily wear them around town here, since I live in the rural West, but I'm a much bigger fan of roper heels for my own boots. Neither do I have patience for all those eyelets, though I could replace them with speed hooks. So these will probably hit the 'Bay once they're done.

OK, 'nuff posting. Time for the 5-hour round trip to Phoenix to go pillage.

I believe the Cuban heel is common on logger boots because of the tree climbing cleats that are often used with them. That, or it’s a west-coast thing.
