And here I thought DC thrifts fell off hard! What were your favourite haunts?
Prime Thrift in Georgia Avenue is amazing at times but full of resellers.
Goodwill in Huntington, VA was my main squeeze.

Small world. Finds at that place funded my short DC trip a couple of years ago.

It definitely helped pay my way here in the states and a good chunk of mini purp’s birth / follow ups.

Charlotte isn’t as good. I’m grateful I can still thrift but I know my output isn’t as strong anymore.

But on another note does anyone had an older Carhartt Detroit in a large (maybe) that they’ll sort me out with?

The D5 cleans oxidation and the F5 lubes and protects. At bare minimum you have to clean the volume, balance, and tone controls. Getting access to the pots is different on every receiver: sometimes from the top, sometimes from the bottom, and sometimes you have to remove the entire faceplate. There is no rhyme or reason to it.

I normally spray D5 into the hole in each potentiometer (read: knob), work it back & forth fully about 50 times and then move on to the next. WHen done I let them dry out fully for a couple of hours or even overnight (it evaporates), then repeat the same process with F5

It's a lovely rabbithole to inhabit. Welcome to the madness
Great tips, thank you! NGL, already hit marketplace for a couple more vintage pieces ...

At least on one of them, the seller is a tinkerer and already did the Deoxit routine. Another one the right channel has some problem.

Down into the tunnels we go!

Yeah, while we're on vintage audio, a quick flip brag. Posted these when I kopped them at a GW in a neighboring town. A guy was "blocking" them as I approached from the opposite side. Spotted them from a few racks away and knew exactly what they were. Took everything I had not to just shove him to the side, but he quickly said "whoah - too rich for me" and I grabbed 'em. $80 minus 20% old fart discount, so $66. Matched pair, and minty. I did run them, and they have truly fantastic sound, crystal clear with no coloration, but I have the whole house on thrifted Sonos, so off they went today to an enthusiast in Asia for $1200.

Wow! That's a killer find! You had a pair of LS3/5A's as well, if I am remembering correctly?

Anyone good at dating vintage Red Wing? Receipt in the box from 1989, but the box and the tag in the boot look older to me. Also, they look like a model #899, but are insulated. Box says 00849 but I can’t find that model unless it morphed into the 8849. Thoughts? View attachment 2319935 View attachment 2319937 View attachment 2319939

I would say that's about right. Red Wing used that graphic and label for years. Really cool find with the original box. Not many of those survived.

2025 is all about the bins. I wasn't able to source enough last year to make the money I needed. This year I've changed it up and have only been to the bins. I don't get to check out the regular stores until I reach my listing goals.

It is a completely different world, I hope someone is writing a book about it. Where I go I see the same people every day. People dress for "work", lots of streetwear and Polo gear on display. Sourcing at the bins forces you to see hundreds of different brands and items of clothing you've never seen before. I've picked up so much cashmere and linen I still can't believe it.

What I really mean is that you can't find anything at the bins and no one should go there. :)

Here are some of the cool items I've found.

Boglioli:

Hello Kitty:

I don't know how this was still there - Reversible Christian Audigier:

Vintage Pendleton (Minty):

I watched someone throw this back, probably because it is really heavy. Mr. Mittens:

MIUSA Lee, 1970s?

Random Coolness, even if low resale. I've toured this mill.

Indigo Palms (Tommy Bahama) with a sought after heavy leather shirt:

I debated whether or not to spend $12 at a thrift store for this one but picked it up at the bins for around $2 instead:
