I love when you can actually have a story of when a thrift situation falls in your favor. I saw this hat on the rack to be priced the previous day at around 4 pm. The entire back staff had essentially gone home for the day so I figured that it wouldn’t be rolled that evening although I stuck around a little to see. I just tried to go first thing in the morning wondering if it would be out on the floor. As soon as I entered the store, I went straight to the men’s hat section and it was the first one hanging on the rack. It was a senior’s day so the store had a huge lineup at opening, but I was one of the first 10 people so was able to get to hats first.

alright fellas, i waffled on this one pretty hard instore because i’m aware of the odds, but i messed with the bezel a bit and the second hand started right up and at ~$30 i figured it was worth a flyer either way.

The serial number is between the lugs behind the bracelet.you have to take it off.you don't have to open the case however if you want to you can use the hot glue gun method (google it) I've opened Rolex watches with it without having to go to a watch maker with a Rolex tool.

Edit sorry I missed the part where you know about the lugs serial number.

Cool another "Is this a real Rolex?" entry!

Doesn't look that terrible right off the bat. Although the crystal being bashed up and scratched makes it hard to get a good look at that dial.

Another quick method for opening casebacks is the "Rubber Ball" method. Several watchmaker tool companies now sell rubber balls just for opening.. However the caseback has to be somewhat loosened up to work with the ball method. If it was clamped down watertight it'll probably have to be opened by a watchmaker with specific "Rolex Case Back" opener tools.

This is the kind of thing that you impatiently want done, but half assing it and carving a big scratch in the case or dropping it and messing up internals is worse so be patient and do it right if you don't have the tools.

Assume it's real and treat it as such until you know for certain!

Both mine (2006 model) and Mrs J‘s (mid ‘80s) Rolexes say “Swiss Made” rather than “Swiss” on the bottom of the bezel below the 6.

Known as a "Swiss Only" dial.

The watch found looks like thissun: (not my photo)

I will say the little "stick" style indices on this one appear to be a bit skinnier though.
