Thrifts around here have been closed since last week, so I guess I've got some time to play and show some stuff I've come across the last couple months:

I got good (not really) at sewing because I lost so many belt loops and pockets on my poopie suit to that watertight door. We smoked in MSW bay when the lamp wasn't lit in whatever the area forward of the fan room by radio on an 88 was called.

Speaking of jackets, wish I had that foul weather jacket still. Best damn jackets.
Wow, really testing my memory of the layout. I don't ever recall losing a belt loop on the coveralls, but I do remember that day my favorite jacket snagged on the forward RC hatch, funny how the mind works. I only went forward to eat and sleep, I was an ELT on the 691 for 5 years more than 25 years ago.

I stumbled on that entire set of Time Life western books once at Unique, bought the whole series on the spot. The photographs are pure gold, and I ended up using them a shitload for projects in fashion school.
I found it sitting on one of those end caps with socks, discarded. Checked the books for the rest, but no luck. You're absolutely right, amazing photos and such a goldmine! I bet those were some awesome projects if they had old west inspiration!

spent some time at my storage unit, have come to the realization I am more of a hoarder than I have admitted to myself previously. I started seriously thrifting about 5 years ago, and I pulled out some of the first things I ever thrifted as far as clothing goes. first thing I took out was two bins of shoes, some go back as far as 4 years ago, most are within last year. some may have previously been posted, but since I have time, might as well post them. everything is available, so if you see something send me a DM and I can send more pics/info.

first up is Allen Edmonds part 1. top row, l to r: Brown Delray's in 9C, Black Delray's in 10.5E, Brown Walton's in10.5D
bottom row, l to r: recent Walnut Bond St in 10 3E, brown Foley's in 10D, Brown Delray's in 9D, and on very bottom vintage Gregory's in 10C. AE has a new model of Gregory's which is a tassled loafer. someone sent me a pic from a late 60's or early 70's AE catalog showing the old style. can't remember who sent it, and when my hard drive fried on old laptop, it was gone as I hadn't backed it up in a few months.

Next are all Ferragamo's. Top, l to r: Loafers in9.5D, Captoes in 10.5D, NWOT wingtips in 10 2E, and sneakers in a 13D.
20200331_122005.jpg

Various makers. Top, l to r: Vintage Cheaney Royal Tweed Professional Grade in 9D, Alden for Brooks Bros in 8.5D, Crocket & Jones Swansea in 9E, pretty sure thats a UK 9 as they seem bigger than that.
Bottom row, l to r: Cheaney Tweed's in 10C, Vintage Nettleton in gator, not really sure though, size is 9-9.5, all markings have rubbed off. Last pair are Armani, unavailable, fit me perfect.
20200331_123343.jpg

Last are various shell. I have not done anything to them except hit them with a brush.
Top row, l to r: Florsheim 93605 in 9.5D, Cordwainer Wright in 12A, Barrie Ltd 657 made by Hanover in 11E
Bottom row, l to r: RL Marlowe in cigar by Crocket & Jones, size 9D, Alden 975 in 9 C/E

These were some of the first items I ever thrifted. Up to when I got these, I had only done ties or grabbed the occasional jacket or shirt for myself. Was waiting at a GW for ties to come out when they rolled a rack out for their new boutique section. grabbed these two, paid $9.99 each. Alexander McQueen made in Italy.

This is what caught my eye, was not familiar with McQueen, but knew it had to be something. Google led me to StyFo, and down the rabbit hole I went.

Had a tie thriftening back in January. Nothing to the level of @silverwarebandit, but with a PPU of $1 got great value. The two most expensive ties were RLPL from Savers @ $4.99 each, Got 22 at GW for $2 each, and about 40 ties at bins at roughly $.25 each. These are the highlights.

Back to the bins for this Ralph Lauren Limited Edition Down Sportsman coat, size Large. One of the regular ladies nabbed it, but it was filthy. Reaaaaallllllyyyyy filthy. Like put it in a garbage bag immediately filthy. We regularly trade stuff, so she gave it to me for something. It took a couple of oxi soaks and a few washings, but it is clean.

So today is garbage pick up day in my neighborhood. I went out for a ride, and what do I see by a neighbor's garbage? Two yellow shoe boxes. Hmm.. there's no way it's ..... YES!
2 John Lobb boxes that were set out by the trash.
I **** you not.

I opened the first box right on the damn curb:

Turned around and drove straight home, opened both boxes:

so my typical out and about attire is pretty basic. jeans, vintage t shirt under a vintage Pendleton board shirt, with some sort of Filson/Barbour/Polo jacket. Chippewa or Red Wing boots usually. These are some of my favorite t shirts that I wear. most have some sort of flaws, either small holes, stains, or paint on them, but I prefer them to have some signs of their age. most were pulled from bins, not always by me, but I trade with a bunch of regulars who are there, works out for both of us.
these first ones I actually found myself. all are true vintage, made usa, single stitched.
The kind of Corona you want.

was very happy to get this 1988 t from Bitter End Yacht Club on Virgin Gorda in BVI's. This got wiped out after Irma and Maria, and when I moved back from VI's they had no plans to rebuild it. I have been sailing down in the Virgin Isles since 1985, I grew up sailing in Salem and Gloucester with my best friend Jeff's family, when we got out of high school we chartered a sail boat for 3 weeks with a bunch of our friends and sailed all around the Caribbean. We did it pretty much every year until early 2000's, charter a boat for 2 to 4 weeks, and get a new group on board every week. Jeff captained, and went for free, I just paid for my airfare as first mate and cook. The Bitter End was always the highlight of the trips, we would visit The Baths and give people a night or two on shore.

these are some of the band t's I wear regularly. I am slowly getting shirts from my favorite concerts that I attended back in the day. Most were traded for, and only one survived from actually getting it at a show. My girlfriend at the time got tickets to this show for her birthday, I was never a big Seger fan, but he put on a great show.
