1. And... we're back. You'll notice that all of your images are back as well, as are our beloved emoticons, including the infamous :foo: We have also worked with our server folks and developers to fix the issues that were slowing down the site.

There is still work to be done - the images in existing sigs are not yet linked, for example, and we are working on a way to get the images to load faster - which will improve the performance of the site, especially on the pages with a ton of images, and we will continue to work diligently on that and keep you updated.

Subscribe and read this thread rather religiously. Never post, I really only do light thrifting for fun/myself, but had to tell you guys about this... pretty sure it's the craziest thing to ever be posted here, and the shock of it is still sinking in for me.

A friend of mine found this table at an estate sale for $500. Did not even know what it was, just liked the looks of it, had someone come take a look at it and when they offered him 130,000 on the spot he decided to do his own research...

    Unfuckingbelievable.

My fellow Brits will vouch for me, but St Michael/Marks & Spencer is fffucking everwhere clogging up the racks. @thebuddahman @nickd

    In the UK I'd add

    1. Savile Row makers' terrible diffusion brands / licences sold to dept stores
    2. A few high st. stores who have taken to using those italic Made in Italy hanger loops (presumably because one seam was glued there)
    3. Those brands which spend on halfway decent fabrics, so they pique your interest on the rack, but when you pull them off the rack you realise the construction is terrible (Paul Smith, French Connection etc.)

Edit: also come to think of it, any of the aspirational brands in this group which seem to be aimed at giving middle class people a sense of "heritage" or European sophistication while selling them the same poor suits that get made when management consultants strip every step possible out of the manufacturing process to cut costs --- but in particular the one called "The Label", which puts 'Made in England' tags on everything, making me think that there's a chance of Row or vintage Chester Barrie.

Hell yes, especially when they use halfway decent fabric - oh, this could be nice...dammit, Marks & Spencer.

Paul Smith is great! Well, usually anyway. I've had a couple of Paul's tailoring pieces and they've all been really nice. But then again, I am biased! ;)

"The Label" ugh, I see so many of those!
Some M&S stuff is quite nice, I've sold a few vintage M&S/St Michael wool ties for an average of £10-£15 each.

The most part is just shit.

Happy to be corrected on this: which sub-labels, etc. are good? I've seen plenty with contrast stitching, flashy linings and fusing. Maybe the 'London' line? I have seen some made in Italy, but nothing by SF 'good' grade factories. Is any of the RTW made by the usual suspects for such things, eg. Lardini or Belvest?

For some reason also I just can't get on with machine-made, un-punched keyhole lapels. I don't mind machine-made holes, but if they are machine made I'd much rather have the straight line than the obviously imitation keyhole.

I'll add one more for more formal outerwear: that "SSSSSSSSSS" label. I think it comes from a discount department store in New England? Shows up on what I assume are are nice coats/jackets with all other brand labels removed.

Edit: and older Chaps. I see that damn "made in Canada" hang tag and think Samuelsohn. Then I see the Macy or Dillards labels.

The perks of an hour long commute to work into the burbs is seeing at least four new thrift stores right on your commute that you would never have gone to. Also parks, a lot of parks for cycling! Time to do some research.

Wait a second someone would actually pay $630k for table, or am I missing something? (Obviously uneducated in this field)

can't imagine a flip like that. $500 > $600,000+ is life changed overnight.

I sold one of these a few weeks ago. Drove me nuts trying to describe the fabric. Couldn't get the term terrycloth out of my head, though that's not it. How would you describe it? I think I went with 'thick woven'.

Waffle knit is the winner! Reference waffle knit in cashmere sweaters and you will see some examples.

Well, here's the greatest hits of the last month or so. Some e thrifts and here and a lot of this is gone already. Been a pretty good start to the year.
