1. And... we're back. You'll notice that all of your images are back as well, as are our beloved emoticons, including the infamous :foo: We have also worked with our server folks and developers to fix the issues that were slowing down the site.

There is still work to be done - the images in existing sigs are not yet linked, for example, and we are working on a way to get the images to load faster - which will improve the performance of the site, especially on the pages with a ton of images, and we will continue to work diligently on that and keep you updated.

I stared at that picture trying to figure out the personalities of your family. Is there going to be a fight breaking out over who gets the hair follicle model, or do you have a dermatologist in the family?

Does the Jenny doll go to the same person receiving the book on Gumpisms?

No matter, I wish you were my uncle!

While these arent thrifted, I thought you guys would appreciate the story more here than in my own thread.

Theres this guy who comes in the boutique pretty often, local guy, not a #menswear dude by any means, just a local guy. He keeps telling me he has these vintage leather flight jackets that he loves after seeing some pieces I have on display in the shop. I keep telling him he should bring them by just so I could look and admire. So today he comes in and shoots the shit, and I ask him where the leathers are. He says "you know what, ill be right back". He goes home and comes back with a bag. First he shows me this sick 1970s trench that was sadly too small on me, unstructured perfectly patinated, DB cigar brown leather. Needs some repairs. Then he takes out this awesome goat chamois suede field jacket that has these golf ball size holes on the shoulders. He's looking for suggestions on how to fix it, and then he says "I have this old pair or suede pans that I cut up to replace that part". He goes back in the bag and takes these out:

I look at them and say holy shit, those look pretty damn vintage man, a reverse calf bell bottom jean? He says yeah, I had them for like 50 years, they werent going to fit me anymore. Thankfully he ripped them mostly on the seams.

I start to tell him its too bad he cut them up, as is they would have been something cool to sell, you just dont see shit like that nowadays. But as im looking over the pieces, I see a tag on the inside :

Fucking East West Musical Instruments. From 1969. Custom. I lose my shit on him and tell him it was kind of like taking a knife to a Van Gogh. In any case, an artifact like this should not be relegated to scraps, so we struck a deal to find someone to restore them and then eventually sell on. So now I need to find a leather artisan who is willing to take on this challenge. If anyone has any ideas please let me know who. But yeah. Super rare shit from the least expected source. Just yet another reason why I have the coolest job on the planet.

So here's about a month and a half's worth of stuff. Not everything here is pure thrift (so don't kill me), but I assure you that there's plenty of meat. Most likely my last haul post of the year, so to everyone.. happy holidays and new year!

25c each plus tax. They had 20% if you spent over a certain amount.

Whhhhyyyy? I'm glad you gave him a scolding, but also glad you are going to try and salvage those. EWMI has been on my want list for like 15 years.

The sad reality of it is that we are part of a small percentage that values and appreciates old clothing. The general population thinks that nobody wants this stuff because it's old and out-dated, then they proceed to either toss it or donate. Same goes for patina. It pains me to think how many pairs of Big E Levis and other cool vintage workwear are thrown away because people think that nobody will want a shirt/jacket/pair of jeans with a hole in it". Same with the thrift stores. I bet tons of that stuff goes straight to their rag piles because they are dirty/have holes/repairs.

Yup. I mean the guy took a pair of scissors to them and cut them up like origami. Can you imagine? I literally told him "you kind of fucked up on that man". I showed him some comps on my phone and the guy was pretty pissed. I bet hes going to dig out some other shit tonight in his attic. (I hope!). anyway, if you recall, the guy who did the restoration on that vintage B6 Aero leather I found a over the summer, I reached out to him to see if he was down for a Franken-project. Fingers crossed.
