What's the difference between that auction and this one? http://www.ebay.com/itm/1981-Topps-...843982?hash=item210cc0358e:g:nS0AAOSwZ8ZXAGbV

That's what I don't get about cards. One auction will go for $1000 and another (that looks the same to me) goes for $2.

I found boxes of mine recently. Donated a ton of them but kept the "good" ones. (Good ones in quotes, because I was a big Delino Deshields and Robert Horry fan)

Cards can be graded for perfection. Ungraded cards will go for next to nothing while a certified gem mint card will go for many times more...

It's all about the grade. This one will be a 9.5 or 10 grade it's perfect. If you look at that listing the bottom and top corners are bent. Slight as a bend as they are that's what's crushed the price. The other thing is its printed off center on the front. Mine is centered. It's the little things that get the price.

Print is slightly off-center. I'll call it at 8-8.5 if the corners are sharp.

Edit: compare it to this 9.5 graded Rickey Henderson card from the same set.

Ah....sports collector cards....still images of my Mickey Mantle card from childhood in my mind. Its gone now, having looked all through my parents attic for such things, but somehow I think that it was one of the most valuable things I ever owned...but never knew it at the time.

I have a bunch of awesome cards my uncle gave me - several Mickey Mantle. Unfortunately the value of most baseball cards from that era is nil unless they're in superb condition. I had them looked at by several shops/collectors and the sentimental value is much more than what they were willing to offer.

Tried the Church's thread, but didn't get much traction. Any idea what model these are?
