1. And... we're back. You'll notice that all of your images are back as well, as are our beloved emoticons, including the infamous :foo: We have also worked with our server folks and developers to fix the issues that were slowing down the site.

There is still work to be done - the images in existing sigs are not yet linked, for example, and we are working on a way to get the images to load faster - which will improve the performance of the site, especially on the pages with a ton of images, and we will continue to work diligently on that and keep you updated.

Nothing spectacular on the front. I see a bunch of cards from the early 90s, a time when sports cards were produced by the billions...

That MJ card is not a rookie card.

Ah....sports collector cards....still images of my Mickey Mantle card from childhood in my mind. Its gone now, having looked all through my parents attic for such things, but somehow I think that it was one of the most valuable things I ever owned...but never knew it at the time.

I donated about 10,000 cards a couple of years ago. I feel bad for anyone who bought them looking for a goldmine. I kept all the good ones. [IMG]

When I was a kid, I had an autographed photo of Dick Butkus. True story.

I had a Joe Montana autographed Dodgers hat... My childhood was a bit weird.

What's the difference between that auction and this one? http://www.ebay.com/itm/1981-Topps-...843982?hash=item210cc0358e:g:nS0AAOSwZ8ZXAGbV

That's what I don't get about cards. One auction will go for $1000 and another (that looks the same to me) goes for $2.

I found boxes of mine recently. Donated a ton of them but kept the "good" ones. (Good ones in quotes, because I was a big Delino Deshields and Robert Horry fan)

Cards can be graded for perfection. Ungraded cards will go for next to nothing while a certified gem mint card will go for many times more...

It's all about the grade. This one will be a 9.5 or 10 grade it's perfect. If you look at that listing the bottom and top corners are bent. Slight as a bend as they are that's what's crushed the price. The other thing is its printed off center on the front. Mine is centered. It's the little things that get the price.

Print is slightly off-center. I'll call it at 8-8.5 if the corners are sharp.

Edit: compare it to this 9.5 graded Rickey Henderson card from the same set.

I have a bunch of awesome cards my uncle gave me - several Mickey Mantle. Unfortunately the value of most baseball cards from that era is nil unless they're in superb condition. I had them looked at by several shops/collectors and the sentimental value is much more than what they were willing to offer.

LOL, my dad put the Micky Mantle cards on the tire because that was his favorite player...
