1. And... we're back. You'll notice that all of your images are back as well, as are our beloved emoticons, including the infamous :foo: We have also worked with our server folks and developers to fix the issues that were slowing down the site.

There is still work to be done - the images in existing sigs are not yet linked, for example, and we are working on a way to get the images to load faster - which will improve the performance of the site, especially on the pages with a ton of images, and we will continue to work diligently on that and keep you updated.

WOW! Congrats! That's great! Advice? Whatever your wife wants/needs/desires get it for her. Tell her how beautiful she is and how much you love her. Today is all about her. Be her servant. Tell her proud you are. Say nothing that could be construed negatively (not that you would of course).

By the way, is the baby a boy or girl (not that it matters)?

Congrats Hans! Solid advice from everyone here, would also add to remember to stick to the birth plan if you guys made one. Only the wife gets to call audibles.

I also am a pillow guy, I guess. Was told if you are down there it's some Walking Dead stuff you cannot unsee.

Congrats on the new arrival, Hans! +1 on what everyone has said so far. We had ours at home so I helped the mid-wife and her assistant with anything they needed from downstairs, but it was all done with before it knew it. The whole night is a blur, though. My wife kept a journal of that whole day and she is glad she did. With everything going on, your perception of time is lost.

Hans, here are some good tips from a childless SFer:

    -"Stop being so dramatic."
-"Babe, can you go get me a Pepsi?"
    -"It can't be THAT bad."
-Eat a Subway sandwich. (Hopefully they have Subway where you are)
-Keep putting your phone really close to her face and show her funny YouTube videos. Make sure the volume is cranked.
-Watch TV and keep saying "shhhhhh...I don't want to miss this."

Congrats, 330, having a good week! Hans wins tho, but if it's taking too long and they start talking about a C-section, you can break out the Doritos.

Welcome @Picking Profits . I've seen just about all your youtube vids. I listen to them in the background while I take measurements. Watching/listening to others loving and doing the same thing we do is motivational for me.

Anyway. Got any labels inside the interior pockets?

HansderHund, coming from the point of view of one who has had the baby while fabulous hubby took over for the Doula who didn't show up...

When she reaches the point where the "primitive mammal brain" takes over - the one that knows how to have a baby, as mammals have done for eons - don't worry if she doesn't talk to you. Or if she swears a blue streak. Don't try to "keep her present" by talking to her if it pulls her out of laborland. Help her breathe without hyperventilating, by example. If she makes noises, help her keep the tones deep/low. What sounds like agonizing pain may or may not be, from her perception. It could be like the weightlifter who vocalizes when he lifts. Trust her to let you know if it becomes intolerable.

Fan her. Let her know you're there. She will probably begin dozing between contractions at some point. It's normal. Let her rest. It's called 'labor' for good reason. It's damnably hard work.

Do not get distracted by the monitor. It's not having your baby, and your wife is not a uterus attached to wires. Ignore it. The nurses will read it for you.

Your wife is the descendant of a million foremothers who have successfully brought forth life, and birth is as safe as life gets. Congrats to both of you. :)
