Dillards is a regional upscale department store with locations across the Southern, Southwestern, and Western United States. Think of all the regional stores that existed before Macy's bought everything... Marshall Fields, Hudson's, Dayton's, Carson Piece Scott, Goldwater's, The Broadway, etc. It is not an off price store like TJ Maxx.

Until about 4 years ago I had never seen or even heard of the following:

    Nordstrom
    Neiman Marcus
    Brooks Brothers
    Zegna
    Loro Piana
    Isaia
    Brioni
    Hermes
    Kiton
    and so many more

I had however heard of the following:

    Sears
    Boscovs
    JC Penneys
    Hechts
and Macys (though we never had one)

    Speaking of people wanting to wear walmart stuff;
Stopped by my overstock shop Saturday, and while I was perusing the racks and such, this odd couple walk in, husband and wife, both looked a bit out of place. My shop girl went over to introduce herself, and give the "Welcome to the store" spiel. The wife asked what they sold here, and she explained that they were an overstock shop specializing in mostly runway couture, and other high end goods at discounted priced, etc, etc. The woman flips the tag on a Phil Lim leather back sweater thing, retail is like 800$, but it's been marked down to 300, and she is apauled. She demands an explaination from the shop girl. Shop girl responds with "We do also have a clearance section, and we do carry some things from some more...contemporary brands at great price points, but we do also carry quite a bit that is more expensive as well." The woman and her husband continued to flip through the racks, and went to the turnstile with leather jackets on it, and proceed to make fun of the fact that these 1.5-4k leather jackets are so expensive, then the woman loudly states to her husband "That's why I like goin to real thrift stores, these prices are crazy, I expect everything to be a Dollar!" Quickly therafter they made their exit.

On the subject of Jewelry though, I usually pick up sterling and gold from this shop, picked up a Werkstatt Munchen sterling money clip, couple sterling keychains, and a couple white gold rings. Never for more than melt value; So I think that counts as a thrift.

I don't know Chicago super well but my friends that live there tell me to stay on the north part. Chicago had a little murder problem.

Where are you from? I'm surprised you hadn't heard of Brooks Brothers at least.

Originally MD, Eastern Shore. Think chicken farms and corn.

Well, they've only been around for like 200 years, so that's not much time.

Actually though, my mom made a lot of our clothes, otherwise we wore hand-me-downs from older cousins.

Hey I haven't done much thrifting lately, but I did just see this label - in the field so I could t find much sales history. Worth picking up? 1988 suit, pleated pants and for a larger man than myself. [IMG]
