(sorry for flooding the thread with another question)

anyone from Europe or another region with import duties ordered recently from Stoffa? I'm curious about their policy to charge a flat fee for shipping including duties ($60) for orders above $300. Do they declare a lower value for the items? Otherwise if would ammount to a substantial duty expense for them...

I'm not sure exactly how they do it, but I've ordered from Europe several times and never had to pay anything on top of the checkout price. I doubt they can get away with systematically declaring a lower value though.

I used laundress for a while until the recall last year on some stuff, put me off. now use Soak brand, as was recommended on SF a few times. I like it!

I’ll try this one, no-rinse is compelling.

I’ve been using Eucalan for my wool and cashmere knits. Also no-rinse and works well.

I'm curious that Stoffa recommends dry cleaning for a cotton, wool and cashmere woven fabric, as all three fibers can be theoretically hand washed. But I know nothing about this, so...

agreed with other comments, simply a failsafe against bad washing techniques mostly. I've used the Soak on 100% cashmere, 100% wool, stoffa cotton, etc. all good. I usually give it a light rinse after to get most of the scent out.

Same here, never faced any issues. I doubt they downplay the value, too big of a risk for them. Probably negotiated a good deal with the forwarder?

You can't really negotiate duties since those are essentially a tax levied by the government. They must be paying them themselves if no one has encountered any, which would be surprising...

Ok collection 5 is the best one in a long ass time. The return of the assymetric coat, now in a even nicer slouchier fit. I sadly can’t fit into mine anymore, and I fell in love all over again..

Side note, I’m a bit surprised about the number of cashmere options for trousers, not the most durable choice.

I assume they pay duties themselves and just plan their company budget accounting for these expenses. Most of their clients are in the US so I assume that expense would be mostly for UK, European and Japanese clients. Around 20% import tax for maybe 20% of their client base? Probably not a huge expense anyway. Given the high prices it looks like they can absorb that.

Kamakura also does something similar. I have business background and I'm just curious about how this plays out. It's certainly attractive for someone abroad. Paying current prices + ˜20% would surely keep many people from buying.

In sweden the import tax is 25%, plus a ****** SEK to USD rate. It’s getting down to about 10SEK = 1 USD again, it’s been a lot more lately, but it still add’s up quickly. Although nowadays, they charge in Euros online, come to think of it.

I was lucky to see the new collection in person this Tuesday. The colors are absolutely beautiful, all the shades of blue, gray and brown. Brick cashmere also caught my eye.

The cashmere pieces have a beautiful luster - the DB jacket almost look suede-like in this sense.

Also, new boots.

agreed about the cashmere trousers- I'd have to expect they are more fragile than their wool counterpart. Can anyone who has them comment on how they wear? Thanks

Not sure, but I wanna say I've seen them as a shoe bag for their shoe on their insta stories. Don't own any shoes though so can't confirm if that was just for the pic or if that' show they're delivered.

I got a pair of open lace-ups recently and they come with a plain cotton shoe bag.

Those bags look great though.

 

[Complete Novice]

Dropped into the New York store recently, I own and like several pairs of Stoffa trousers but first time to see whole range in person.

Interesting and very unique design and business model;

1. Make is standard mid-high range industrial product although there seem to be improvements since price hike, perhaps more bar tacking, pick stitching and hammered and cast side adjuster buckles? TBH not that great for the price point, especially shirts, relative to say Ad***.
2. Some fabric choices like recent cotton-linen are really, really good. Basket weave appears softer and more lustrous than my previous edition and brought back good memories of 90's Armani. Pique, peached cotton, recycled denim lacking in quality impression though.
3. Shirt jackets IMO were somewhat disastrous - a coat shape without the shaping ability afforded by padding, unlined, overall impression is very discordant.
4. Design and taste level is elevated way above brands in similar competitive space like An******* eg flight jackets exceptionally well proportioned and stylish in person.

Sorry for poor photos - shows fabric choices albeit on previous season trousers with better finishing but without the new side-adjuster buckle.

Very surprised to learn that made to measure is same price as RTW - would explain why RTW feels uncompelling at new prices but MTM in choice of material is expensive bargain if you know what I mean .......... is this correct?

After some thought, I pulled trigger on MTM trousers ...............
