I'm seriously jelly. I was just starting to make progress on convincing my wife we need a place in the mountains when COVID drove the market insane.

Every zillow page in the flathead valley looks like this:

Who's ready for winter? We just signed up both kids for "ski team" so we're committed to being up in Tahoe just about every weekend and a whole bunch of other days. Looks like I will get at least 30-40 days in this year.

Now the quest to find a ski lease from December to April which is the hard part.

I've been going around about that with my crew this past week. Ski lease pickings are pretty slim, so we may be doing hotels again this year.

I'm moving into my new place in whitefish tomorrow.

First thing to do is get Montana plates on my car. Then I go buy a season pass.

Here's the view. Neighbor swears there's a ski resort somewhere out there behind the wildfire smoke...

Smoke is clearing, there actually is a ski area out my office window!

Yeah, obscured by the house, but I honestly had no idea we'd be able to see mountains... So that's a nice bonus.

Almost sad that my neighbor mentioned it... Would have been an awesome surprise to wake up this morning and suddenly see everything for the first time.

So, I have been tasked with arranging a skiing bachelor party.

We have a few places in mind - but any suggestions? I'm really the only advanced skier, unfortunately.

South Lake Tahoe is hard beat for partying choices. The Heave has tons of intermediate groomers, too many in fact, a gondola you can walk to from cheap casino hotel rooms . Feb/March you‘ ll have a good idea what kinda’ coverage you’ll have

Awesome!

That is actually our number 1 choice (after some research).

Is the skiing pretty decent for someone who is primarily into skiing? I was thinking about scoping out Mt. Tallac, if I can find a guide and if snow conditions are right at that time. Or maybe head to squallywood for a day or so?

Also, we are in early to mid thirties, most of us are married with kids - is it still “nice”. I have zero experience with the Tahoe area, nor with the snowpack there. Although I understand that it can get good or really bad seasons.

Also, we are probably going end of February to beginning of March, probably 5-7 days.

I guess what I am trying to say is - is South Lake Tahoe the south padre island of the mountains?
