Are you saying the blue color of this pair is actually a patina, not the color of the leather?

If this is the case that may explain why this time is different with what I did before.

So does that suggest when polish a pair of shoes with patina, I should avoid using alcohol or at least not using it in the first couple layers?

mall leathers are dyed .. no leather is blue.
most likely the leather dye used on these shoes were alcohol based

plus I can not be 100 percent sure . But it look like this is crust leather with some hand patina done on them .

most people here don’t even recommend renovator for these .. alcohol and renomat are too extreme for such leather and dye combination

@dieworkwear has talked about this multiple times

Thanks, how did yours turn out?

I only have patina'd sneakers in my rotation as of now, but an experienced patina artist like Bolten can do stuff easily as beautiful Bemer, Berluti, Corthay... so long as he starts from a reasonably light shade, which your blue Bemers qualify as.

If the patina guy can't recover the exact shade of blue on the cap toe, he might have to darken or lighten the rest of the shoe to harmonise, but your shoes will end up looking great either way imho.

Thanks for sharing, I will reach out to the patina artist in town.

Not everyone's cup of tea, but that sort of super-satured patina you can't really find in RTW, only aftermarket patina really.

Picked up a pair of 2nd hand Peal & Co by Crockett Jones to be beater boots for the winter since I destroy my shoes in all the salt we get up here and they were cheap. I’m fairly sure they’re bookbinder but am curious if there’s anything I should do to prep them. Given they’ve got the coating on them throwing conditioner on them seems silly but I admittedly don’t know much about bookbinder. Outside of a good brushing anything to do or know?

Greetings,

I have a pair of Meermin Cognac Museum Chelsea boots. What color polishes, creams should I us on them. I would like to attempt to make them darker if possible?

Thank you in advance.

Re: museum calf boots. You may want to look on the net for more info on this type of leather. I understand that they are hand patinated but have a deep dye used on them, too. I wouldn't rush to use coloured cream on them but - as I suggested - do some thorough searching. Best wishes, Munky

I'm pretty sure Meermin uses Ilcea museum, which are dyed through and not hand painted so there is less worry off rubbing it off

during the last care iteration I decided to go with Renovateur and cream (I use the one from Burgol), but did not apply wax. the shoes looked good before the first exposure to rain, after which stains appeared on the shoes where the raindrops hit them, as if they were splashed by dirty water. this happened to the dark brown shoes too (not in the photo), and the stains were easily brushed away with a stiff brush. was this because I did not apply the wax? I suspect so, but wanted to hear your opinion.

I don't use wax at all as I don't like a high gloss finish. I mostly just use cream - either coloured or neutral. Very occasionally I use Renovateur and don't always put cream on top of that. Renovateur will brush up to a pleasant sheen. I have been doing this for quite a few years now and all my shoes look fine! With all good wishes, Munky
