It is salt from water, salt from your body's water. I think some people's chemical makeup is different and have more salts and such, and some people's feet don't sweat, but if I do a lot of walking, even without rain this will happen.

The Columbus Co Ltd (CCL) is the manufacturer of the brand titled BOOT BLACK. Some forum members have tried the CCL products and have moved to the Saphir Product line, but the following may interest you in maintenance tips - regardless of which brand you choose.

In the following video, we see their recommendations for new shoes to perform:

    Pre-Maintenance

    Daily Maintenance

    Weekly Maintenance

    Polish Shine

    Antique Shine

    Suede Cleaning

Also, the following video shows a CCL trained professional using just the cream (without wax) to acquire a very nice shine:

    All my best,

Ben, it is ages since I thought about Solon! It is appropriate to quote him, sometimes, on this thread.. He also said: 'Why do we weep when weeping availeth nothing? Because weeping availeth nothing'.

It was raining but not very heavily, the shoes got slightly wet but not soaked. The lines appeared when they got wet. I put them in shoes threes as soon as I got home and let them dry.

Sorry if this is in the wrong section, I'm looking at buying a pair of common projects brown arctic boots off another user here was just wondering if anyone here own a pair, and the best way to look after them? I don't know what sort of leather the boots are so was wondering if it's safe to use something like obenaufs on them?

I got my first pair of suede shoes.
Is this guide from PTO any good? It seems like I'be getting off to easy on the shoe care.

That video he linked to is frightful.

Not everyone uses the waterproofing spray but generally it's similar.

I do wash them using the saphir shampoo when they gets really dirty/spotty. Otherwise just brushing them before and after wear with very stiff suede brush. But then I live in Cali.

PTO contributor Derek also lives in sunny California btw so weather isn't too much of an issue.

Will of ASW also had a blog post about suede care that doesn't read like an ad placement on hanger project.

For people who worry about these things (me, for example), Boot Black does contain turpentine.
