So, here is why we can call it a fake:
1. The unbranded patch is a bit odd for RRL
2, It's only selvedge half way down. Most selvedge RRL denim jackets I've seen and own are selvedge all around, including around the collar (but this is not always the case)
3. RRL is fond of making denim jackets in the USA, especially $490 ones

And here is why we can call it genuine:
1. 4 different, probably unrelated, sellers are selling this on Ebay
2. Some of the listings don't have branded leather patches either
3. The rivets and buttons are all properly branded RRL. I'm no counterfeiter, but I imagine it would be a bit hard to stamp steel. I don't know
4. A $490 anything made in China isn't unusual for RRL
5. It's styled and distressed appropriately for a RRL offering
6. You get a denim jacket heavily distressed like that and, yeah, it will feel flimsy, $490 or otherwise

It's probably real.

I have multiple versions of that jacket purchased from Ralph site.
They're both selvedge only from the horizontal chest seam down.
The distressed one is made in China and it does feel a bit lightweight.
The non washed one is made in USA and doesn't have a leather tag.
The hardware and stitching in the pics looks like on mine.

The only thing that looks odd is the blank collar patch. Mine has the usual Overalls etc stuff on the patch.

I agree it's probably real.

Can someone please tell me if this “RRL” denim jacket is real or a counterfeit? The leather patch does no have any branding. Also the rivots don’t have little dimples on them. I bought it off eBay as new with tags. It doesn’t seem to feel like a $490 premium RRL denim jacket

I have this exact same jacket (I believe anyway) that I purchased from RRL last season and while a lot of the photos you posted look identical to mine, there are a few things that are off. My leather patch on the inside has red branding and the stitching on the label on the inside of the placket does not extend past the label itself. Everything else looks similar to me minus those things.

I chanced upon it recently, an apparently brown, apparently tweed offering made in...Italy? I’d appreciate any info anyone could offer on it. Like: age? Why the fancy script? Why Italy? Isn’t that purple label purview? The mind boggles...

I chanced upon it recently, an apparently brown, apparently tweed offering made in...Italy? I’d appreciate any info anyone could offer on it. Like: age? Why the fancy script? Why Italy? Isn’t that purple label purview? The mind boggles...

All the proper RRL tailoring is made in Italy. Used to be Caruso but no idea if that is still the case. I haven’t seen that particular jacket before but the style is the 4r3 they introduced around 2013.

Is this a 40? If so, where did you find it? Curious if it’s mine. I had this exact sport coat and let it go about a year ago. Double RL tailoring is great. What everyone else said. I still have a blue herringbone coat that I love.
