A little late to the tag discussion but I found my board at Hobby Lobby, and the antique style push pins are from Home Depot.

Bonus pic of the same room, my wife calls it the Den but it’s thoroughly a man cave. Will share more if y’all wanna see it, a bunch of cool hard to find antiques and vintage work wear essentially but also plenty of RRL.

Wow! That's nice. Mine are stuffed in an accordion file folder in rough reverse chronological order.

So reached out to a few local tailors, and a few in New York. Seems that most do not want to go the route of performing an alteration at the arm hole and would much rather do it at the bottom sleeves. I guess in my last ditch attempt here, would you consider sharing the store location you typically go to? I would very much like to see if they could perform a similar "procedure" here to keep the jacket looking as naturally as possible. Would very much appreciate any information.

Really weird, as it isn't exactly heart surgery. That said, I really doubt that the tailor for this store would offer alterations for garments not bought at the store.

have you tried RL Mansion, Mansion's alteration used to be good

edit: and if you bought from RL online, my 10 years ago experience says they would alter, how much charge though I don't know

As an aside, I also had the shoulders and chest of my 10+ year old Elkhorn leather jacket slimmed up by Johnson Leathers in San Francisco. I had bought a L so that I could layer, then decided I didn't like layering, but the damned thing was too big unless I wore a sweater or heavy sweatshirt under it. Once I moved back to Texas, that meant I'd almost never wear it. As a pleasant side effect, it also gave the sleeves the perfect length, since they'd always been about an inch longer than I preferred. I am just surprised, since although it probably isn't as easy as shortening at the cuff, should be something any reasonably skilled and experienced tailor can do.

Great displays. I’ve enjoyed looking at all of these label collections though it’s not anything I’ve ever really considered. Then these come in and I start looking at everything in a different light.

Most tailors can shorten sleeves from the armhole on a denim jacket and get good functional results. What they can't do is get good aesthetic results. Getting the topstitching to look halfway decent is brutal. Think about a standard sewing machine, and what it would be like trying to position a jacket to put two rows of topstitching around the armhole. With the right machine, it's not too tough, but that's a special machine found in factories. Oh, and on top of that, this jacket has a lining, making it even more of a nightmare. What tailors hate more than anything is a dissatisfied customer asking them to undo and redo a job that was too difficult to take on in the first place. I'm a little amazed that tailor at RL Houston did it. Good luck to anyone else looking to have it done. If you find a tailor who will take on the job, have them level with you in terms of how close they can get the seam to look OEM. If appearance doesn't matter that much to you and you're mainly interested in just getting the sleeves the right length, tell that to the tailor and you should be able to get someone to do it. (But then again, if appearance weren't that important, you'd just have the sleeves shortened from the bottom cuff in the first place.)
PS - I don't mean to be negative; just sharing knowledge.

You’ll have to share your thoughts on these, was very tempted but woulda been slight overlap with another couple pairs I got. I bet the wax will help with some badass creases once you rock em!

I wonder whether places like Denim Therapy in NYC or Denim Doctors in LA could handle a job like this. They might actually have factory-grade machines. In fact, they probably have the copper rivets and can do an OEM level job from the bottom cuff, without having to mess with the armhole at all.

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
