Not sure if it's the case everywhere but i know they've changed the outlet stores from an "outlet" to a "luxury store" at outlet malls. they usually have current season merch for small markdowns

yeah ive noticed nike does the same thing. they have current season stuff with a slight discount or even kept at retail but presumably its just overstock of certain items

I just wonder where all that old stock goes. I remember finding items several years old at the outlets and now nothing is more than a season old

But if they would do that where will they sell their last seasons leftover, what I know is in London they closing the RRL store on mount street so I am not sure if they carry on selling here in their Bond Street store

they certainly dont burn them like louis vuitton does haha

i presume with the general downsizing of RRL as a business unit, they are producing less of each item in each size run. so everything is going to be harder to get presumably in smaller sizes

maybe old stock still ends up at marshalls/tj maxx

if RL was smart, they would send all RRL leftover inventory to their tokyo store as it would def sell there

For anyone interested,  I received the Wool Herringbone Sport Coat and can confirm that, unlike the picture on the website, it does indeed have dark brown leather elbow patches as described in the details.  I very much wanted the elbow patches so am very satisfied.  Awesome all around jacket that will be getting a lot of use from me.  ... oh and of course..lots of Indigo...

PS: as a side note, I see they are offering the Unconstructed Cotton Sport Coat again for F/W.  Another great jacket...wore the heck out it the past couple seasons.

Not really. Last year I randomly came across a RRL blue gingham check button down at my local TJMaxx. Think it might have been PSR from one season before. Still, I almost crapped my pants - imagine finding a RRL shirt in the sea of shit that TJMaxx tends to carry. It was like wading in a stream and finding not a tiny gold nugget but a big ass gold bar.

That's extraordinarily rare, however. Beyond that, it's only happened to me once before, about 3-4 years ago at my local Marshalls, when I found a plain white RRL button down. I hear stories of dudes on these boards walking into their local discount store and finding jeans, jackets and shit but it's like a Bigfoot sighting: sure, it's plausible but it always seems to happen to someone else.

The only outlet I'm aware of that carries PSR RRL nowadays is Woodbury up in New York, and even their selection is relegated to a small back corner of the store. It's been a couple of years since I've seen RRL on sale racks at my local Polo outlets.

Edit to add: Keep in mind that RRL at TJM/Marshalls may not be much more affordable than what you get on sale. The blue gingham I found was priced at $150 - they know what they've got and it might have actually been less on the RL site once you factor in the random discounts RL offers. I could have waited for it to go to markdown, but that would have been a gamble on whether it would still be there when I came back.

Edit to add 2: I just remembered, a couple of year ago I was in a TJMaxx near me and came across some RRL leather bags. I was with a friend who also likes the brand and she ended up getting a leather tote for like $400. They also had the leather duffel that RRL seems to periodically produce, but had priced that at $999. So again, not much cheaper than the website. I passed on the duffel since I really didn't need it and a grand was a little rich. But, point is, TJX companies really don't have great deals most of the time.

Yeah I recall back in the day (at least 6 or 7 years ago) I'd occasionally see RRL stuff at the 'regular' non-PSR outlets and TJ Maxx/Marshalls. Usually the outlets would have a rack or so of random Blue/Purple/RRL stuff marked down quite heavily, but I haven't seen that in a while. I also recall finding a pair of straight leg denim at marshall's for like $40 a long while back, but nothing at all since then. As you note with Marshall's and TJ Maxx it's all about the 'diamond in the rough', and in many cases these days they know what they have and price it accordingly. The thing to keep in mind is Marshalls doesn't send the same kind of inventory to all of it's stores. If you go to one in an affluent area you are much more likely to find higher end lines. However, as noted, they are generally priced accordingly high.

Regarding the question about Florida, I do know (again years ago) their Orlando outlet used to have a few RRL pieces, but upon my most recent visit 6 months or so ago they had nothing.

At this point, absent trying to hunt down a grail piece, your best bet for good pricing on RL stuff is their own in store sales and sales via the website. To be honest, outside of the occasional 'amazing' find at an outlet here and there the sale pricing this past season was pretty much as good as you'd have seen on any sort of regular basis at PSR Woodbury.

Good to hear on the herringbone sport coat. I liked it a lot but saw the pictures vs. description and was wondering about the patches. Also I can second the Unconstructed Sport Coat being a nice piece as I picked that up recently. My only complaint about it is I found the fit (primarily the sleeves) to be slightly boxy compared to other RRL suiting I own which I find is very slim. It works on the sport coat though because it just means there is a little more room for layering.

I haven't had a chance to wear the sport coat yet with very high temps here. Several people have mentioned that it bleeds quite a bit of indigo, how do you wear it without getting blue all over your shirts beneath? The sleeves are lined so I'm more worried about the chest and back areas. It's tough because I think the jacket would look great with a nice white oxford and a pair of officer chinos, but I'm terrified!

Yeah, you're exactly right regarding inventory. Generally, if you go to a TJM/Marshalls in an affluent area you'll find some really good shit and not just necessarily RL merchandise. Go to a low income area and it's straight trash.

This isn't a hard and fast rule, though. A couple of years ago I was in a TJM in a lower income area and saw some RL Women's Collection evening dresses, the high ened haute couture shit for women. They were selling for something like $500 and were originally 3 grand or more. So, a good deal on some really nice dresses for a lady friend except that upon closer inspection you could see that they were all fucked up somehow, like stains, busted zippers, small tears, pulls in the fabric, stuff like that. A big problem with TJX stores is that people especially treat clothes like shit, so you grab something nice only to find out it's damaged.

It all boils down to you literally have to hit some of those types of discount stores every weekend or every other weekend and constantly stay on top of their new inventory.

hmmm...strange about the sleeves being boxy...this is definitely one of my slimmest sport coats. I even had to size up ... my [very experienced] tailor said it was a "progressive fit" :)

...however...on the Indigo bleeding front..for the first few wears I would recommend wearing it with some jeans and non-white shirts...like some check shirts or chambray.

The first first time I wore it, I did wear it with rigid khakis and a white shirt and the crocking was very noticeable on the rigid khakis There was some mild bleeding on the color and cuffs of the shirt too... another somewhat humorous story was when I first wore it, I had my elbow on a white conference room table and it left a very noticeable blue stain on the table ...however with a wash, almost all the indigo on the other fabrics goes away......and it picked right up off the table.. :) After the first few wears, there is a little to no bleeding.

The price you pay for the indigo bleeding is the outstanding, rich color...it's much nicer than you would get from other jackets/materials/dyes...

As for wearing it when it is too hot...I know what you mean, I've lived in 100% humidity/100 degree locals....but this is a very light cotton jacket...and it's great to wear with a T-shirt and jeans for a little more sophistication... the drawback to the cotton though is that it wrinkles...I've already noticed its wool cousin doesn't wrinkle (even though it was folded in a box shipped to me).

...anyway...this has been my experience...will let you know about the wool one...just dropped it off at the tailor to get the sleeves taken up a bit...

Yeah my jacket (42R) isn't really 'boxy' per se, just a bit roomier in the arms and shoulders than the two RRL suits I own, which are admittedly extremely slim (size on the suits is 42L). Unfortunately there is no way I can go down to a 40 and still have the waist area work (gotta hit the gym!).

Thanks for the tip, yea I figured it best to wear with shirts that I didn't mind any bleeding on. Good to hear that after a few wears the bleeding reduces. Where this piece really shines is in direct sunlight due to the heavy depth of the indigo dye. At first glance in dark lighting it looks like your typical navy blazer, but step outside and it really impresses.

So just a note as well. Not sure what the validity is to this but my better half just got back from NYC and stopped by the West Broadway store. She noticed they had some women's items and asked the SA about it, who claimed they had been slowly receiving inventory and were bringing back the women's line.

I hadn't heard anything like that so again not sure if it's true or if in reality it's just old inventory they are slowly trying to unload.

Pretty sure all unsold RRL stock ends up at the sample sales in NY and is eventually re-sold by Deez Nuts in the B+S forum.

Interesting. The Wool Herringbone Sport Coat is described as Navy, but it is a Indigo dyed fabric, right?
    Looks lovely.
I have a similar one from about a year ago, which doesn't have the herringbone pattern, though. The colour of that looks indigo, too, but there weren't any crocking warning labels.
I found recently that a number of companies call some fabrics indigo as a synonym for navy or royal blue, while the fabric isn't really indigo dyed.
