1. And... we're back. You'll notice that all of your images are back as well, as are our beloved emoticons, including the infamous :foo: We have also worked with our server folks and developers to fix the issues that were slowing down the site.

There is still work to be done - the images in existing sigs are not yet linked, for example, and we are working on a way to get the images to load faster - which will improve the performance of the site, especially on the pages with a ton of images, and we will continue to work diligently on that and keep you updated.

Does anybody know what the black patent shoes are mostly used in the pictures, or a similar alternative?

Something about the postman throws me off. I've been looking for a black wedge oxford but those are just eh. I'm always looking for alternatives to the postman...

Try the Common Projects Derby? I've never seen them in person, but I like that they're not completely monochrome.

I always thought the Red Wing Postman looked a bit chunky. The Common Project black Derby's look better; especially the toe box.

I also just picked up the SS13 Unstructured Blazer in navy (40) and it's almost a perfect fit. I just need to have the sleeves shortened by an inch. I'm around 5'6" and 160-165 lbs. (well built) if anyone of a similar build was wondering.

Redwing postman was made for people on their feet working most of the day looking half way decent was a side effect. I dont think the derby shine was made intended for work shoes. I used to own derby shine.

Right, and for the price, I think they're OK.

I recently started looking for a black shoe that I could wear on any occasion, whether it's a wedding/funeral, or any day of the week.

I've only been able to find a couple that I think would work. The CP Derby Shine and the Alden All Weather Walker in black scotch grain.

crosswound, you mentioned that you USED to own the derby shine. What about them made you sell or get rid of them otherwise?

Toebox to pointy i felt i had to dress slimmer for that. I'd go with the aldens. I think the brooks bros aldens are good the perf or regular ptb.

The alden black shell unlined blucher is probably your best bet for an all around shoe

funny all this recent talk i just bought the redwing postman for my work shoes i'm on my feet about 12hrs+ a day so i'll see if it can hold up the days i don't want to wear the white's boots. but like stevent said the aldens in black shell will be more versatile i'd opt for the brooks brothers perf toe one because its in a slightly sleeker last than barrie and has the perf for when you need to be slightly dressy.

That's a great looking shoe, stevent! Thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately, I live in Canada, and the usual Canadian sites I go to don't have it in stock. Bummer.

Yes, I can order from the Brooks Brothers site and have in the past.

I did a little more thinking about what I was truly looking for and came across a photo of someone wearing Thom Browne black scotch (pebble) grain wingtip brogues. I don't want to spend a thousand dollars on a pair so I thought I'd ask if you or anyone for that matter know of any comparable shoes in that specific style?

I know that Tricker's makes Thom's shoes so that would probably be my best bet but I thought I'd ask and see if some other suggestions were thrown in to give me some alternatives.

Pretty sure if someone recommends you something it won't be good enough or you'll find something else you like.

You have a pretty good strategy on saving money trap yourself in a limbo so you won't spend it. :fistbump:
