I like that place. Great dipping of the complimentary bread appetizer.

Yeah, but I'm around for a few weeks. How long are you in Vegas for? I'm still trying to figure out if I can make Project.

The chimichurri? It's decent. I'm super picky about it, though, because a lot of Argentine places completely half-ass it. They don't understand that it's a condiment much like ketchup: it's basic, it's ubiquitous, it has a familiar kick, and you know immediately when you're not eating the real thing.

are there any argentinian restaurants in LA that make good chimichurri? the ones i've been to seem to think it's oil with parsley to dip bread in. you can't put that on meat!

Cool. Hit me up when you get back from Vegoose.

Truthfully, this is why I stopped going to Argentine places around LA. I haven't been in ages but I remember El Morfi in Glendale having decent empanadas and chimichurri. I don't remember what it's like at Carlitos Gardel but it couldn't have been that good if it doesn't stick out.

I found an ice cream parlor called Mashti Malones, just north of Sunset on the west side of La Brea. Really good stuff. They have certain flavors that are made using rose water, which adds a unique and delicious taste to the ice cream. For lack of a better word, yum.

Finally got a chance to go to Nickel Diner after reading about in this thread last year. Had Mac N Cheese and pulled pork sandwhich which were both great.

Went to tasting kitchen today despite the first fridays madness.

    Had:
bread plate with 32 year balsamic or some shit
    fries
creamed corn with egg and mushroom
    oysters
    rigatoni with shrimp
    branzino
    radicchio salad
    chicken wings
    grilled squid
    3 flavors of gelato

and a braveheart (dewars, ginger, honey)

    Was not bad.

Anyone go to the Taste LA Burgers/Beer or Mixology event last night?

Burger and beer selections were good, Eagle Rock brewery and Firestone pouring some good IPA's, good burgers too. 25 Degrees burger was excellent. Went to the "micology" event at the Paramount lot too, wasn;t nearly as good.

I like 25 a lot but never find it worth the hassle.

I went to Eagle Rock Brewery this past trip and fucking hated it. It's a small place so it's luck of the draw if you're going to get a place to sit or not. But the beers sucked. I've had a beer or two of theirs in the past and didn't think they were bad, but they don't have all of their beers on tap (like the ones I had at Verdugo.) Friend and I got the sampler, each got different choices, and neither of us could finish our glasses. That says a lot considering I'll drink just about anything that isn't Franzia or PBR. The lone saving grace for that place was that they sold beers from other breweries in a cold case, for the situation where your hipster friends drag you to South Eagle Rock to try the brewery.

Mohawk Bend was ok but...eh. I'd rather just stick to Blue Palms or Tony's.

Beautiful place. It's too bad that there are homeless crack whores around everywhere. The area it's in is scary.

How often are you in that area or in areas like that? There are some halfway houses along main but I don't think it's half as scary as you make it out to be. In the couple of blocks between Cole's and Pete's (or go another block, Edison) there are loads of relatively "nice" establishments. I know a few people that live in that area who definitely give the impression that the bark is worse than the bite along Main, and considering the clientele over the years, I believe it.
