I much prefer Cole's in downtown over Philippe's for french dip. Restaurant is a lot nicer too and they make stiff drinks.

No way, Had a Cole's Beef French Dip last Saturday and it didn't come close to Philippe's.

Nickel Diner in downtown, near Coles
the BEST BEST macaroni and cheese I've ever had. Has a nice kick to it and isnt the soupy kind of mac n cheese but a thick fork eating consistency. They are known for their bacon bits donut which is really good, but I prefer their red velvet donut.

+1. Ever since Who & GS took me here I've brought everyone I know to this place, "fanfuck'ntastic".

oinkster's pastrami doesn't hold a candle to the better delis in town.

Oinkster is burger-joint style pastrami. Nothing special, but if you live in the area and don't want to drive, it's not like you have real choices. Billy's in Glendale doesn't do any any better with their pastrami.

OTOH, the Oinkster pulled pork sandwich and their fries rock.

Does anyone happen to know where you can buy Barbour or any type of wax dressing around LA? I have a waxed cotton bag that needs to serious re-dressing.

^i never could finish them and i get them with bacon and sausage plus tons of their sauce but this is late at night if we happen to be at dbag central aka old town on my way back home

Yeah, the sauce is really good. Late night calls for the taco trucks on Fair Oaks...can't be beat.

really? i've gone to tomato pie twice and both times the pizza was soggy and awful. it's a shame too since the silverlake one is just a few blocks from me.
    .

There are two great pizzas there: The Grandma (their specialty), and the minimalist Tomato Pie.
Try the Grandma (especially if you like garlic).

But I don't think they sell Barbour wax dressing, which is what I need.

Any place in LA that sells good microbrews, or is my best bet online? Been wanting to step my beer game up and get some quality stuff in the fridge.
