I think you've been to sushi gen but never mind they're closed sundays and mondays.

If you're willing to drive to oc on a monday the only jet approved spot is ohshima in orange. Fair prices, very good fish.

Will be in LA for a few days, staying around Hollywood.

Thinking about checking out Magasin and Atelier & Repairs and maybe a few thrifts. Any interesting vintage/ thrift stores in the area?

Gonna be there with the family, any must do’s for younger kids?

Any advice would be really appreciated.

sister just moved into Los Feliz so I'll be visiting a bit more than usual.

any good food around the area? tried Messhall the other night and i was pretty disappointed with their burger. i still dream of the lamb burger from Golden State every once in a while.

GS still do the lamb burger iirc. Their fish and chips are off the hook too.

What do you need to know? There's some posts about it in the Viberg thread. They just dropped prices down by $100 and are open until 5 today.

Hi All,

Do the restaurants mentioned here still hold?

Some of what I could glean:

  • Maccheroni Republic
  • Plan Check (fried chicken sandwich is my current fav, will try it here)
  • Restaurants in Grand Central Market
  • Osteria (which one?)
  • Geoffrey's in Malibu
  • Republique

Looking for Italian/American/Chinese food recs around Santa Monica, Downtown LA, Beverly Hills, Rodeo Drive etc.

Thanks much!

Maccheroni Republic is legit. I was introduced to it by foodguy, who knows his ****. And his food.
Plan Check is fine; nothing special in my opinion. It's another gastropub. YMMV.
GCM is really fun.
Osteria's kind of a generic term, the restaurants with Osteria in their name aren't all related. I'm too lazy to look back at what the references were, but people may have been talking about Angelini, which is good Italian. If it's Osteria Mozza, people love it but I've found it only so-so.
Geoffrey's is not about the food, which is decent but nothing special and overpriced. You're paying for the ocean view.

I was just as Geoffrey's last Friday and can confirm this. And I went at night so I didn't even get the ocean view.

I would just as soon go ten minutes south on PCH to Moonshadows, snag a seat on the balcony looking out on the ocean, and order drinks and appetizers.

I saw that that foodguy had recommended it to you, and so first on the list :)

Thanks for the feedback - have already been to Geoffrey's couple of times (ran into Jim Cameron once during brunch hours).

Will look at Moonshadows.

SLS in Beverly Hills has a good vibe - good spot for people-watching I guess.

I also saw your reference to BV which we went to last time - always a great spot opened on Thanksgiving.

No good Chinese-food (spicy/schezuan/soy-saucy/oily) spots around?
