I don't do burgers much, but check these out:

http://www.discoverlosangeles.com/blog/top-must-try-burgers-los-angeles

Most of them seem very appetizing.

I would second the Father's Office recommendation. The Apple Pan and the Jazz Burger at Jitlada (only available at dinner, I think) would also go on the list. (I don't eat burgers very often these days either, to the extent that colors how you view the recommendations.)

Umami's fine if it's convenient to your shopping. They are in the good-not-great category in my opinion.

I don't recommend any izakaya spots in ktown. If you go further east there's some good places in little tokyo/downtown. Check out izakaya fuga and izakaya yuji.

OB bear is more known for their KFC (korean fried chicken) which is really good by the way.

^ i should specify, the korean equivalent of izakaya spot. bar food.

What does Portland have to do with it?

The pedestal fathers office puts their burger / beer on would get politely knocked over up here.
The experience, vibe and cost is the antithesis of what a burger beer spot should be.
Come to portland, theres a table waiting for you!:)
/end rant

It's not a burger spot. It's a bar that happens to serve a great burger.

Well, two bars now. I preferred the original (Santa Monica) location when it was only semi-hip.

In my limited experience, Portland certainly isn't free from hipster-thronged places overcharging for faux authenticity . . .
