Seems a fair number of SF members either use Leica cameras and lenses or have an interest in discussing them, so in order not to derail other threads with discussions about this topic, I've created this thread for questions, answers, general discussion and, I hope, posting photos taken with Leica cameras and lenses.

Since this thread is, by definition, worthless without pics, I'll kick it off with a discussion of the difference in character between lenses of the same focal length but different maximum aperture. Leica people discuss this at length, but a couple of photos easily serve to illustrate. Note particularly the bokeh, or out-of-focus areas.

Both photos were shot with Leica M rangefinders on Kodak BW400CN film.

First, the current version of the 50mm Summicron (f2) shot at maximum aperture (or very close to it).

Second, the 50mm Summilux (f1.4) pre-asph, the version prior to the current one.

Hey Red, do you know any places here in Tokyo where I can get rolls of Medium Format film processed and get some prints? I have been using 127 roll film this summer in a Yashica 44 (similar to a Baby Rollei in size) and really want to get some wedding pics printed.

The place with the model trains does film processing and can scan your negs or slides to CD ROM. This is where I get all my processing done. Bic Camera also processes film, though I can't vouch for the quality.

I knew Bic would do 35mm for sure but I wasnt sure about odd sizes.

Ask around. 120 film is readily available in both shops, so it should be no problem.

I have not gotten my first reel developed yet as I cant afford a decent scanner at the moment. I dont want to pay 20 bucks just for them to put my stuff on a cd...

That is rather excessive. I pay less than half that per roll. Anyway, I look forward to seeing some of your photos when you get them processed and scanned.

Not quintessential, just average. The quintessential Showa-era salaryman has a very specific look with a distinctive style of glasses.
