Oh wow, does he do flush taps? Thought only bedo's did that type of service in the area.
Not sure. My knowledge of various tap nomenclature is limited!

Taps (article shows the rubber one, but many use metal versions). Non-bedo cobblers I went to in the area usually didn't make them flush with the sole but nailed cheap plastic ones on top of the sole.

I think these were tacked on like Allen Edmonds does.

Anyone have a cobbler rec that’s not Bedo’s or sky valet?

AH One Shoes based in Springfield, VA

A falling out between the brothers is why Aram set up a separate shop from Sky Valet. They use Redenbach soles and can do lulu taps (sunken metal toe taps) among other changes such as swapping out speed hooks for eyelets and vice versa. Lots of sole and heel options, especially for Aldens. The Alden DC shop recommends them if you don't want to send shoes back to Alden for full refurbishment.

Are there sunken taps for the heels as well? Home from work now and saw that all taps are the tracked in kind.

I think you would wind up on your ass a lot if you had metal taps on the heel. That is, if you are a heel striker. I imaging even those who run on their toes still land on the heels when walking. Any tile, marble, or even wood floor would likely be way too slippery with metal heels. Everything I've seen has either a rubber cutout that can be separately replaced or a full rubber or leather heel.

Even the tacked on ones extend the life of my shoes as I drag my feet.

I guess heel taps would be too noisy anyway. The tacked on rubber/plastic ones work fine.

What is shady are the fines. In Maryland that fine would be $30. But DC? $100

Its been a while but I've been caught by them as well. I don't think they are a deterrent, just a money-maker for the city.

$40 in Maryland. I can't stand them. I think red light cameras may serve a good purpose, but the speed cameras are just driver taxes. They have speed limits that are often unnecessarily low, and then rake in cash from people driving at what would be the normal speed of traffic for that road. I drove for Uber a bit and I'd have days where I earned $150 but got a $100 speed camera ticket.

Supposedly in LA they have red light cameras where the fine is $500.

I can confirm that ah one does sunken front taps. However I read on the Alden thread that he was closing his shop due to health reasons.

On another note, Kinda been laying off SF. I've been a sometime contributor to this thread. I was laid off in May. Took some time to unplug. Travelled some. However, my savings will be depleted if I don't get back into the swing of things i.e. a full time job.

If anyone has any leads for an government relations job, please PM. -J
