What would folks say is the best place to get an OTR fully-canvassed suit in the area for under $1,500? Buddy of mine needs a wedding suit but doesn't have enough time for MTM, wants to be able to try things on first (so no online stores like S&M or eHaberdasher) and I'm trying to steer him towards something better than suit supply.

why not suitsupply la spalla or jort? they're around $1000 - $1100 and full canvas.

He should check out Sid Mashburn in Georgetown. I don't know Sid's prices, but there should be something at your friend's price point.

I was thinking SuSu might be a little too aggressively cut for his body type (I also feel super intimidated in the Georgetown store for some reason). We'll probably check it out anyways, but was trying to think of other options.

That's a great idea. From the website it looks like their suits mostly run from around $1,300 - $1,600 which I think is right in his range. Plus I get the impression that their fits are a little more forgiving compared to suit supply.

Doesn’t suitsupply offer a fully canvassed line?

There’s a lot more to a suit than just canvassing. Paul Stuart maybe. Zegna outlet in Clarksburg is a possibility.

Nordstrom carries Canali and Hickey Freeman, both fully canvassed. Sid Mashburn’s stuff is Andrea Campagna and quite nice.

Paul Stuart will have some reasonably priced suits with their sale going on.

Just learned that the Paul Stuart Clarksburg outlet closed. Not surprised, really. My take is that most people who buy (and know about) Paul Stuart don't shop at outlet malls. I only went to the PS outlet once. Selection was quite limited, although at least it was genuine mainline stuff, not outlet-brand merchandise. I heard that near the end, they did start selling some made-for-the-outlet merchandise, so maybe it's for the best that it closed. With the Hickey Freeman outlet at Clarksburg also shut down, not much of a reason for me to go out there anymore.

Did anyone go to the national mall for the shuttle projection?

I was there over a month ago. They were only using 2/3 of the store and it seemed likely they were closing. Stuart stocked a line of suits made in China. I teased the salesman about it and he commented that it was made with the same fabric as some of their mainline stuff. Whatever. Lots of shuttered stores there.

Hickey Freeman had mostly their white label made-for-outlets suits. A few mainline items but not many IIRC.

Looks like Zegna is the only place worth visiting there anymore. At least it's mostly mainline stuff.

Andrea Campagna, really? I know that most of their suits are around $1500 and that seems very low for that level of make. I have some of their tailoring and I have never been able to identify the maker...nor will they reveal their sources (and I don’t blame them). But, do you know this for certain?
