My friend got banned from whitetail probably a decade ago for "unsafe practices" (a beginner ran into him) so he refuses to go there. If there's snow, we'll go to Wisp which isn't really much better but at least you can go off trail a little bit, maybe. Not sure it's worth the additional drive but will never go back to paying $100 to get yelled at at Whitetail. I was the best person in the park (I am not a good snowboarder) back in the early 2000s so I don't trust these places.
I mean, he's not really refusing to go there if he's banned.

Anyone been to this testing location in Ballston?

Thinking about swinging by there for a rapid test
Just went and got my test done. Thankfully negative.

it’s in the former motorcycle shop across the street from the Lot in Clarendon. 3928 Wilson boulevard.

Indoors, spaced seating, you fill out a form online with your phone, get swabbed, wait for the result, and you’re done in 15 minutes if that. No lines when I went.

I drive by that place all the time. Line was huge before the holidays but has calmed down just a bit I think.

Folks I talked to in Stowe said it was a lot better before Vail bought them. They told me that with the amount of cold and snow they had had, the previous owner would have had twice as many runs open by this time. It did seem that they were not being aggressive about it. It was well below freezing the entire week I was there, and yet there were all these closed areas that had snowmaking machines set up along the sides of the runs, and yet they weren't in use. Someone else told me they just didn't have enough staff
Vail also bought Steven’s Pass resort in Washington state. WA skiers are up in arms about the poor access, slips not open, etc. It seems there is a trend with the ownership.

Anyone have suggestions on a resort on the East Coast (closer to DC would be better obviously) that would be good for a beginner to learn? Like Ambulance Chaser, I've always kind of regretted not learning but you definitely have to go out of your way living around here. I spent a couple weeks out in the Alps recently and now it seems like a good idea to learn.

I think Liberty in PA is good for beginners. I went there a lot as a kid.

Liberty is good, probably better than Whitetail for beginners, but Whitetail is still decent for that. Both are extremely convenient, just an hour and 15 minutes or so from my home in Silver Spring. You just have to hope the temps are cold enough for them to be making snow, because nearly all of their snow is man-made

Another vote for Liberty... super fun and easy.

Saw these guys linked in the Drake's thread. I pop in there occasionally. Kind of a Drake's vibe but a smaller company and a bit less expensive.

Huh. Drake's is having yet another "Archive" sale. Just restocked my espadrilles which are wearing out. They make nice ones that fit!

Nice price on the Japanese linen summer shirts. I have a pile of those and wear them all Spring + Summer. Comfy and indestructible.
