Man, out late for concert last night and now up in NYC for weekend with wifey and nephews. Taking them on the usual touristy stuff as they’ve never been here but managed to stop into Crockett and Jones and grabbed some Grantham loafers in brown. Kind of on fumes now.

Wifey too tired to go out so I’m at a Dim Sum place in Chelsea flying solo.

She grabbed some sushi and took it back to room which will now smell like fish and soy sauce!

The one somewhat jarring change here since my last visit pre-pandemic is the Marijuana trucks. Literally walked past Breguet, Blancpain, and other high-end stores and there was a marijuana truck parked outside. They are all over town and folks just walk around smoking joints. Smell is everywhere.

I know it’s legal in DC as well of course. New normal I suppose.

Made an appointment with Divij Hemrajani at the JW Marriott downtown for Monday. I'm thinking I want to get fitted for 3 shirts: one conservative business, one patterned business, and one casual. Anyone with experience with him have any tips?

I was using My Tailor for several years before Divij took over. He's very good with styling advice, much more so than his predecessor who did the DC area tour stops. For dress shirts I like Thomas Mason and Tessitura Monti fabrics. For dress shirts my go to is royal oxford. For casual shirts, I go with Hemrajani fabrics. They are a lot less expensive and not as fine generally. I have two patterns with Divij. My dress shirts are spread collar with French placket and no pocket; my casual shirts have a button down collar (fused) and plain placket and no pocket. Divij changed up the patterns a little bit the first time I worked with him and he's tweaked them a touch one other time. They definitely fit better.

For your first time, take your time. Sit down and look at the fabric books. Flip through them. Feel the fabrics. Ask about the ones you like to see if he has feedback.

I started with M Kenny. He always favored an extended shoulder. Divij picked up the shoulder with me and made it more fitting to the shoulder point, but there is still movement, because, while the armhole is high, it's not restrictive and tight. I'm in my mid-40s, so I'm definitely not a super tight or slim fitting age/physique. There's definitely drape in the chest of my shirts and room in the waist as well, but they have waist shaping down the sides, without darts. The collar is fitted, but not tight. I thin Divij added 1/8-1/4 of an inch at one point b/c I had gained a little weight.

I originally used the double thick MOP buttons, but they proved to be a bit too much work to get through the buttonholes. I went to single MOP buttons a couple years ago. For one casual shirt I went with smoke horn to match the fabric at Divij's suggestion. They look pretty good.

Headed out yesterday morning and ran across the Chelsea Flea Market. Two Frenchman had overcoats and jackets from France. Found a 1970s Pea Coat NOS and never worn (zero sign of wear and still stiff fabric so I guess they were honest). Couldn’t pass it up! @clee1982

DC is somewhat similar now. Pot is legal and I smell it coming out of cars when I’m out cycling. Crazy.

We went to The Smith many times in NYC before it opened here. I still go the Penn Quarter location quite a bit even though it's very loud. Surprised the U Street location is closing. Pandemic?

I'm game for the 18th. I think meeting somewhere that's particularly festive would be good - Old Ebbit and Bobby Vans have their holiday decorations up. Maybe the St. Regis which has a good bar (with fireplace) and a spacious lobby although I can't vouch for their festiveness. The Ritz in Georgetown has an awesome lobby but was closed last time I went by it a few months back. Any one have other suggestions?
