I paid a trip to Sky Valet this morning to pick up a pair of shoes I brought in for resoling before the pandemic. I had a nice conversation with Hetom, who told me about several interesting developments. First, he’s going to stop carrying Alden, and all Alden shoes are now 20% off. He’s bringing in Paraboot, including the popular Michael model. And he’s now carrying Japanese sneakers:

And now for the really cool development: Sky has its own line of shoes. The first model is a three-quarter Dover-esque boot with hand-stitched apron and channeled soles:

The shoes are $850, which is a pretty good buy. I know that sounds ridiculous, but if they were Edward Green they would be several hundred dollars more. Hetom is thinking of what to do next, and is open to suggestions.
I had to attend an actual in-person meeting yesterday and stopped in at Sky Valet to say hello to Hetom and check out the Japanese sneakers. Picked up the white pair although they turned out to be a bit tight when I wore them last night. These are basically an 11 and I'm usually an 11.5. They are thin leather so I put some large shoe trees in to stretch them a bit. The length was fine. Only $190. Hope they loosen a bit. Me buying stuff out of boredom again I think!

Glad you posted this size info on these Spingle sneakers. I'm normally an 11.5 in dress shoes and a bit larger in sneakers, and it seems that these would just be too small for me :(

I love the designs though.

The sneakers only went up to size 11? Or was size 11.5 unavailable?

The ones I got were XL and Spingle makes XXL but SV didn’t have any. I suspect he will get some next. @Ambulance Chaser

I'm not sure why the ducking for cover. I have a few of their Farnese tubo belts. Very soft and comfortable. I like them better for dress style than the traditional hard leather.

I do have two Equus bridle leather belts for casual wear, but I know they do calf and other finer leathers. Theirs are custom to your specifications, so you can size distance between the holes differently, select the color of the thread, etc. I have no idea what they cost, but Chester Mox also does custom leather goods. Their exotics are expensive $1,500, but they can likely do calf much cheaper.

There's a backstory re. NMWA for @CollingsD2H that I don't think he wants to relive.

$500-$1,500 for a belt? dang...

i guess i don't care that much for it

plus, i started to like something like this: https://ansonbelt.com/
feel that i am often "between holes" so either need to suck up my gut or have belt lose

W. Kleinberg, Ralph Lauren Purple Label come to mind.

Are you looking for a sterling silver buckle?

Some shoemakers make belts - I believe ZonkeyBoot, Gaziano, Edward Green, John Lobb also make belts. If its not exotic, you should get by under 500.
I was thinking RLPL and I was thinking C&J so it appears you're in my head. I like low-profile silver buckles with matte finish.

Nope. I think all parties have moved on.

It looks like we're seeing the light at the end of the tunnel for the pandemic, but I really hope the streeteries stick around. So nice to see a lot of people dining outside in Adams Morgan tonight.

Out and about mask-less tonight! Might have made a bad call on yellow linen t-shirt?
