That makes sense. Ever tried anything from them?

I ordered a first round of 5 shirts a few years ago with James Macauslan as the cutter. Unfortunately, the fit was never that great, even after 3 tries.

Mytailor/Divij Bespoke offers a good product for shirts. They offer multiple collar types and fused or non fused collars. I would choose them if looking for custom shirts.

I tried MTM shirting at my tailor's and the first round didn't work very well. They measured a bit too close and the fabric shrank just a bit after laundering. I greatly prefer Zegna RTW shirts. Their fit and fabric are excellent. Sartorio is excellent as well and Mashburn makes a smashing entry-level dress shirt.

That was actually the same issue with Budd too. They just couldn't figure out how to compensate for shrinkage.

Ouch, I started using Hilditch and Key bespoke service when they visited W.M. Fox & Co and had them make the body a tad bit loose. I had my alterations tailor take the shirts in after they were washed a couple of times. And let H&K know about the adjustments.

Ultimately I gave the final product to Mytailor to get the best fitting shirt. MTM shirts are good for fabrics you aren't able to find in the RTW market or have an odd body.

I don’t like being sold luxury and I want something that acts as a work horse.

I'm also a pretty easy fit as a 16.5/35. Simple to find excellent RTW shirts. MTM makes good sense for the reasons you listed.

Margins are shrinking. I was in London a few years ago and stopped by H&K to re-up on some shirts. When they finally shipped my order they switched over to fused collars and cuffs and shortened the shirts. Shirts also shrank a great deal because they didn’t pre-wash the shirts before cutting. I had to call the store to figure out why the shirts were drastically different. They mentioned I would have to specifically make these request on the next order. I got annoyed and started using Mytailor.

I've had good experience with My Tailor, especially since Divij started coming to DC. M Kenny did a fine job, but his eye for fit wasn't great. I don't fit off the rack. I have a thick neck and short arms. My suit jacket size works just fine with 48c in Cornelliani and 40S in Hickey Freeman, but for shirts, it's a no go, at least for the fit I'm looking for.

I was looking for something on the fancy side as I won't be the one paying (although I do love a good chili dog!)
