I know some relatively newly divorced guys that are happy to rent and not deal with the responsibility of owning - maybe not permanently. So paying $$$$ for a short period of time - say a few years may make sense for some.

The last apartment I rented was in downtown Silver Spring (about a block from the SS metro). Rent in 2016 was $2100 for a 1200sqft 2br/2ba. I thought that was fair. By comparison, my 575sqft 1-br one block from the Cleveland Park station was $1900 in 2014. That was not fair.

I am going thru divorce right now, so I won't want to buy until things settle a bit plus market is crazy now, so renting is a good option.
2b/2bath is around 2k down in burbs.

What are people's thoughts on Tom James? I know they have considerable variety in their line from low-end glued suits to high-end fully canvassed suits with H&S fabric. I have a blazer form their executive collection that I find quite enjoyable.

My boss at work wears only TJ suits. Not horrible but nothing to get excited about. You're at the mercy of the salesperson that comes to measure you and then the suits are made in Maryland to not-the-most-exacting standards.

You could go Westminster and get fitted at the factory showroom (see link below). I think the Master Tailor does it but my data is old. Their high-end stuff is made by Oxxford but I wouldn't let a salesperson measure me for something that expensive.

I was solicited by a TJ sales rep when I worked at BigLaw. I agreed to buy a sportscoat to test the company out, but the sales rep wanted me to buy an entire package of clothes and responded like I was wasting her time. So it never happened.

I was approached by a total babe of a TJ salesperson once (and also by annoying male salespeople on other occasions). Talked with her for 30 minutes as her perfume was amazing but then took her card and left.

Walk around DC (pre-COVID anyway) looking like you know how to dress and they will find you.

A guy from TJ used to call my office line all the time wanting to come in and measure all the attorneys for suits. I'm not at a big firm or anything and I don't know how they got my number. I'm guessing someone I know used them and gave them my number for a referral discount or something. Was it you, @plyonsla ??

MEOW, I got sold some facial wash by a sales rep in the mall years ago. She was a beauty and smelled great. I told her I wasn't interested in buying anything until she rubbed up against me. I bought 3 cases........

Those people selling that crap from the "dead sea" are Israeli's with questionable underlying intentions.It's a great ploy to get into the country, though. You'll notice they are very talkative and tend to ask too personal questions a lot of the time.

What are you talking about??? Your comment is kind of anti-semitic. No one mentioned stuff from the Dead Sea. Also, I have no clue what you mean by "questionable underlying intentions" and I don't think it's the case that most people selling Dead Sea products in US malls are Israeli. Also, it is hard to interpret your claim that they--Israelis--"tend to ask too personal questions a lot of the time" in a remotely positive light. Your suggestion that it is some scheme to get into America is both unfounded and xenophobic. Best case scenario, you are spreading negative stereotypes about Israelis unprompted.

Ha, they were definitely dead sea products, and the young lady was either Greek or Israeli. She looked and smelled amazing.
