This might be the most SF reply ever. Love it.

Me: Honey, I'm just going to look at some new glasses.
Wife: Cool. Where are you going?
Me: Paris. BRB.
Man, I thought spending over $700 on Masunaga frames and nice lenses was extravagant!

Man y'all make me blush with my meager thrifting goals. Today at lunch I almost checked off my tweed/winter pattern suit goal. Sadly the moths got a critical spot or two and it fit great! 😤 50% off too…

You'll likely have better luck on LuxeSwap or Ownly Luxury auctions on eBay. As long as you know your measurements you can fins lots of gems.

Yeah im trying to stay off the bay and failing. Not a real need at this point so it is low priority. Trying to cool it for a while since we may be fitting out the wifey with some new things as she may be moving up soon. That will definitely help next year and there after for budget for quality pieces.

However finding it in the wild would have been quite exciting. One thing we like in the Lamb house is a steal of a deal.

I know this isn't exactly local but if you can swing it, go to Paris and get some bespoke glasses from Maison Bonnet. Mine ran me about $2700 after VAT refund but they fit much better than anything I've ever worn. I used to hate wearing glasses and would always wear the crap out of my contacts. Now I wear my glasses all the time and only wear my contacts to the gym.

Dang, I’ve been doing it wrong this entire time. I need to reassess. Thought about nackymade at one point, but they no longer travel to the us.

Go to NYC and have Wesley Knight fit you for glasses. I’ve had 4 different pairs of glasses before going bespoke and they all sucked for one reason or another.

Todd Snyder in Georgetown closed for renovations.

Anyone been to the store? I'd been meaning to check it out as I've really liked a lot of their casual shirts and am curious how slim their slim chinos fit.
Not been in there since it was Billy Reid. Decor was very Southern Gothic with lots of dark wood. I liked it but maybe not for Todd Snyder's NYC vibe.

Maybe that's why they're renovating?

They sell a bunch of C&J, Alden, and other nice shoes that would be cool to try on for fit. But $730 for C&J Hallams? Is that what they're going for now?? They're not even handgrade.

I think that's C&J's mandated retail price. Connaught Oxfords are $740 and Lingfield Chelsea boots are $820 now. Basically a lifetime purchase, though.

I'm in no rush, I suppose I *could* go to France, but it's not really in the budget right now. I think eye frames are about finding a pair of frames that work for your face shape. If you go bespoke, thats a lot easier, obviously, but I am quite happy with the frames I have now. They don't slip, and I don't see the value/need for bespoke. Perhaps one day I'll make it to a SF meetup, and change my mind haha. But I have no issues with my frames, other than they start to break down around 5-6 years of daily use. But, thats not terrible, I suppose.

Never been into either. Both Todd Snyder & Billy Reid always struck me as overpriced for what it was & not my vibe. Also, both to fashion-oriented for my tastes.

Billy Reid has a nice range of wares. You could go all-in and dress like a lead singer at SXSW or just nice casual. I still wear a lot of his stuff. Casual button downs, shorts, a smashing wool car coat, and the great Bond pea coat.

My only experience with Todd Snyder is the catalog. Looks nice although they get punked out here on SF for stealing designs. Apparently they are serious Zara-levels of copy cat.

I suspect it's just a matter of time before the Georgetown retail churn spits out Todd Snyder as well. Having worked adjacent to the neighborhood for twenty years now, Georgetown retail (and dining)--and M St., in particular--tends to be far better in theory than in practice.
