It is likely my fault. I moved from Florida here end of 2011. I brought the heat 🕺🏻
You must have brought some “Florida Man” vibes as well after that dude stole an ambulance on I-395 a few days ago! 😂

People who lived here in the 1990s always remark there was more snow in those times.

It did. '93, '94, 95, and '96. I was in college here for most of them, heavy snows, lots of fun trudging through it all on cancelled class days.

Warm weather is arriving earlier, staying later, summers are hotter and wetter, winters are shorter and milder.

And yet Easily Amused still manages to stay cool...

Yes, but for tailoring, it's not, because DC you walk, Dallas you drive. So Dallas AC vs. DC no AC, not a close call.

DC summers always sucked, with potential for bad rains & thunderstorms.

I remember those 90s storms.

We had just moved here from Michigan in 92. I was so confused about the existence of snow days and why roads weren’t clear

You know I saw a news bit the other day that a Florida man was sucked into a sinkhole. I was saddened because he seemed the most interesting man on the planet.

Was an empty nester for a few glorious years then wifey's Nephew came to stay with us and finish High School. Got him off to college yesterday! Celebrating at the Green Pig.

Good morning. This aging man is in need of some new eyeglasses. I've had good luck with Moda Optic in Bethesda/Rockville (nice selection from outside of the Luxottica empire and the owner has a good eye, I think), but any other shops in the DMV that others like?

EyeRX in downtown DC or Chevy chase. Never been to Chevy chase, but assuming their brands / selection is the same. I like salt optical frames & they have a decent selection. I’d look for quality frames you’re looking for, then do a store search near you to narrow down your selection. Also, usually stores that carry good frames carry other good frames. For example, eyerx carries tom ford.

My go-to is Georgetown Optician - a mix of independents and Luxottica empire brands/makers. They have a few DC locations and one in Tysons Galleria. There's also Morganthal Frederics in the Citycenter (and online).

I used Voorthuis for my reading glasses. They carry the Japanese brand Masunaga which I really like.

My regular glasses (I normally wear contacts but use these as a back up) are the German brand Lunor from Georgetown Optician. They also carry Oliver Peoples sunglasses.

Neither Masunaga or Lunor are part of Luxottica (last time I looked anyway)

Interesting. I actually use the eye doctor at EyeRX (in Chevy Chase), but I've never thought about getting my glasses there.

I know this isn't exactly local but if you can swing it, go to Paris and get some bespoke glasses from Maison Bonnet. Mine ran me about $2700 after VAT refund but they fit much better than anything I've ever worn. I used to hate wearing glasses and would always wear the crap out of my contacts. Now I wear my glasses all the time and only wear my contacts to the gym.

This might be the most SF reply ever. Love it.

Me: Honey, I'm just going to look at some new glasses.
Wife: Cool. Where are you going?
Me: Paris. BRB.
