What's a good width for a silk knit tie? I know they're typically going to be narrower than standard business ties but the ones on sale at Mashburn are like 2.15" and that just seems so skinny.

Postscript: Should I buy a silk knit tie?

I don’t care for the Sid Mashburn knit ties given the width but I also have a bigger frame than you.

I love knit ties, I would buy in multiple colors.

Way too skinny for me. Isn’t the general rule that the width of the tie and lapels should match? A super-skinny tie worn with a “normal” suit would look weird to me.

I generally try to stick to 3.5”/9cm ties. Nothing smaller than 3.25 in my wardrobe.

My standard business ties are around 3.25" give or take 1/8 inch but knit ties always seem to be narrower? I wonder if that's because they're square so the width at the knot ends up being the same as the width at the bottom. Where would one find slightly wider knit ties?

Maybe Shinumi Firenze or HN White? I have grenadines but no traditional knit ties. Now I’m curious and will research tonight!

I think knit ties are a thing unto themselves and don’t fall into the standard rles for widths for non-knit ties.

I have mostly 9 cm ties from Drakes, Hober etc. That is my preferred width for “regular” ties. 8cm is OK, but borders on too narrow to me, 7 is right out.

I also like knit ties, but none of them (Paul Stuart, Drakes, Kent Wang) come anywhere near 9cm, and they still look “right” to me, even though they are narrower. YMMV.

FWIW, Drakes says their knit ties are between 6 and 6.5 cm, the others I have from other brands are all similar width.

Anything bigger than 2.75 is too big for a knit tie. I have sulka knit tie at 3in and its way too big.

Do all knit ties have square tips? That’s probably why I don’t have any then. Wore those in college but not beyond.

Apparently it's difficult to knit at angles. So unlike most ties, which are woven, knit ties are square. I don't know how to do either, nor do I know how to sew a button.
Knitted ties come in square and point.
