Thought I’d log on to style forum to see if there were any more hot takes on the thousand dollar fleece

Take 1: It's pretty cool. Take 2: It's crazy expensive.

I can't imagine any takes aside from these. If they want to charge $995 for a Casentino fleece, that Casentino better be Vicuna.

This is all true but there is great scope for jokes here which is not being explored.

Drakes clearly Fleecing us.

I’ll get my coat..

The ALD collab sold out quick and I think the orange is better color so not surprised it’s selling at retail.

Made in Italy versus Portugal for blue so that adds some cost. The weight of the Casentino was pretty heavy from what I remember and if they ran the fabric in a jacket or coat it would easily be over 1k.

It doesn't really have the same charm, but if someone is looking for an alternative to the Drake's fleece, Filson has a safety orange fleece. The material isn't as nubby -- it's more of a smooth knitted material. If you google the product name (Filson Ridgeway Fleece), you can find some fit pics. I think the Drake's one looks better when worn, but this one is more affordable ($150).

Did anyone from the EU receive a Drake’s order from the UK, and if so, what import duties did you pay? Still pretty unclear how this all works exactly.

It depends on what you ordered. It the item was manufactured outside the U.K. (and possibly outside the EU, I’m not sure) then you will have duty to pay. If the item was made in the U.K. then your country’s VAT must be paid, either by Drake’s at source, or by you to the courier on receipt, along with a charge from the courier for paying the VAT on your behalf.

I've received one of two orders (to Germany). No taxes, no problem, delievered right to my door. I wrote customer service during the sale after placing my first order if I had to expect paying taxes, this was their response:

"When ordering to the EU the price that you see in the checkout will be the final price that you pay. All import duties and VAT will be taken on and paid for by us."

Then I ordered some more...

I am very happy they handled it this way. I ordered a wool cardigan from Campbells of Beauly in January (after Brexit) and the import taxes and whatnot was hefty...
Hope this helps.

Yes, there are plenty of companies that haven’t got their heads round it fully yet - some aren’t even selling to Europe at the moment. It looks like Drake’s are an example of how to get international sales right

They post Delivered Duty Paid; same as Cavour Trunk, Private White etc.

I have had no issues so far. Although a previous poster mentioned receiving a parcel from the US where duties had not been paid up front, I think, but were refunded afterwards.

Casentino sold out on Drakes UK site.

I have this alternative from Wild Things Japan which I love, synchilla rather than casentino but also a fraction of the price -

Anyone have any thoughts on the fit of the drakes fair isle jumper? I bought in my regular drakes knitwear size (38) and it’s very roomy compared to other jumpers I own. Wondering if I should have gone to a 36 or if it’s just the nature of this style ?
