Hello all - can anyone recommend good chore jacket alternatives? I'm pretty committed to the idea that no one does them quite like Drake's does. Ive got a couple from other brands that were considerably cheaper that don't hang as nicely and lack the detail that drakes have on theirs. Yet they are still a little too expensive for what they are, for me anyway. I'd pay £200-300 for a particularly nice one. £500 is absurd. Anyone got any recommendations?
If you want something English I like the William Crabtree ones.

You can probably get them to make one up in a different fabric MTO if you know what you want.

I also think the mont st michel moleskin work jackets are some of the best out there for the money, kinda thing that will last you a life time
I agree, although look at the vintage versions:

Brand new: zero fades and likely zero fades forever because these are worn by cubicle farmers.

Vintage moleskin chore coat: naturally faded, repaired seams, charmingly wonky fit. Etsy is full of vintage French chore coats like this (this one is from the shop InheritShopVintage).

Those fits are soooooooo goooooodddddddddd.

Every time I see a good chore coat fit in real life, it's always on a woman. Sometimes it's an older woman (e.g., Asian lady with high waisted pants or some white lady that looks like she spends a lot of time gardening). Or is a woman in her 30s or 40s who looks very hip. I see them with Blundstone boots, cut off cotton pants, and Shaker knits. All of these people wear the super old beat-up versions of French chore coats.

Bruce Pask must be one of fashions leading evangelists for chore coats. There are lots of pics with him wearing different ones. He also had Le Mont St. Michel make a special edition in blue with contrasting green for Bergdorf Goodman.

Yeah agreed, vintage is definitely best. But for those without the patience to hunt through the vintage shops or who want (for some reason!) a brand new one, mont st michel do a v sturdy number.

Older people in general do a chore well - is it you that has posted pics of Monty Don before? He has worn them well, mostly because he actually wears them. Fergus Henderson is another example — there are pics of him wearing a brand new blue blazer work jacket 30 odd years ago, and what looks like the same one 5 years ago, very elegantly worn round the edges. I’m on my phone but will dig out the pics some time. I think the key with a chore is to buy one early on and wear the absolute crap out of it.

Yea, Monty Don is a chore coat icon. Also, Peter Rabbit

Did anyone buy one of the new raglan overcoats? What‘s your opinion on them? I really like the grey checked one but I‘m not sure about the fit. I think the model in the lookbook could wear a size bigger to make the look more relaxed. Also the 80% woll 20% Nylon mix makes me wonder but maybe I‘m just too much of a purist and at the end it doesn’t matter that much… but please proof me wrong!
