Now not it seems. Certainly they did and I asked them if they could duplicate a jacket I identified as made by Lardini and was told they had changed manufacturers, although who to is a trade secret it seems.

Let's see the new tag!

Since this is a “cheaper alternative” thread lol here’s a comparable imo balmacaan coat compared to the Drakes version. It’s def not cheap by any means, however it’s a nice looking coat. I have tried it on and it’s not too heavy of a fabric and it drapes nicely. Unfortunately I haven’t tried the drakes version so I can’t tell you how they compare..

New here but following the Drakes thread for a while.

Any ideas on the below, I know it's a standard quarter zip and pedantic of me but I really like the circular toggle

I really like the fabric and raglan construction. I’ve got the hoodie and I’m considering to buy this quarter zip as well. Does anyone know if this factory/company (who ever makes these) makes crew neck version of this same fabric and raglan construction for some other brand?

Haha, waited for that one..

To elaborate:

We have been selling Drakes stuff for quite some time, sure. And several of key Drakes staff are my fiends.

But, that is not what this is about.

Think of it as dissecting a frog. You do learn what is inside, but inevitably the frog dies.

The way I see it, Drakes is not about product. Drakes is about the creative direction and vision of Michael Hill. (Which I honestly believe is what is worth paying for here..)
None of you (mainly referring to the nerds here) would know about any of the manufacturers referenced above, if it was not for Drakes. Which is not to say that said manufacturers make poor product. But rather that Drakes brought their product to a wider audience, that they were not able to reach by their own merits.

In my personal opinion, the Astorflex shoe is worth fuckall if not for the Drakes brand.. James Bond did not wear Astorflex, he wore Drakes. 🤷‍♂️

Bit late to this thread, but I find this attitude rather disappointing (and nasty). Some people have been buying stuff from Lockie and Astorflex and Blackhorse long before Drake's. Are those the only people who should be buying from these makers now that Drake's has used them? Or do people need to buy these clothes with the correct intent and the full knowledge of the maker's provenance?

Quit the dickriding. To me, it seems more valuable to support these makers directly. No one owes Michael Hill anything more than the price they pay at checkout. If he is the creative genius that we seem to think he is, he should be well-able to continuously prove, each season, that his vision and execution is worth the retail prices Drake's charges. Drake's should have to innovate and improve like every other designer or company or artist is expected to.

I'm not mad keen on suit jacket length sleeves on a raglan overcoat.
Or that could be sour grapes because I had mine tailored past the wrist.

Mine was from Magee by the way. The brown donegal tweed Drake's coat looks very similar fabric wise.

See - I think this is the kind of item where the "circular toggle" is part of the creative flair that Drake's adds, you're probably not going to find a 1:1 for this from a vendor.

I have been loving the Games cotton suits and the fine line between everyday use and tailoring (soft tailoring?), would you guys have any other recommendations for suits in that vein?

I have seen some J crew, Alex Mill options but all seem to be on the slim fit side of things, where the Drake's ones are on the slouchy comfy way.

Had never heard of Magee. Great addition to the thread. Thanks for sharing.

As a side note, I’m cool to pay a bit extra for some guy’s curating efforts. When Drakes ties were $150, maybe justifiable. At $225 I’m more interested in going straight to the source for $75.

Probably Drakes doesn’t really care about me, but I do have several ties from them (back from when they were mainly just ties), but now I’m out unless there is something truly unique.

the rugged ivy thing is cool, that’s basically my style, but it’s not super unique and you can get there a lot of different ways without paying the Drakes markup.

Seil-marschall out of Germany makes a casentino vest in orange. They are a great company, a bit old-fashioned but a pleasure to deal with. I realize, the vest is not cut the same way that Drake's is.

Having said that, I care neither for the vest from Drakes nor Seil-Marschall.
